@Rancid-Schnitzel When I watched the Keeping the Faith doco, it was obvious how white the league was back then. Creative players like the ones at the Warriors were not encouraged (guys like Blacklock, Mundine, others were regularly passed over at rep level in favour of more steady players). These days every team has a contingent of polynesian players, all teams are scouting players in NZ, and all of the players regardless of ethnicity try to play more open. It is the gift we gave the NRL but our point of difference has been eroded
Mundine was passed over because he wasn't in the same league as Daley or Fittler. The league might have been whiter, which was a reflection of the demographics in Aus at that time, but saying creative players weren't encouraged is pure boulderdash imho.
See my comment above. I appear to be talking out of the wrong end right now...
All good 😊
There must also be a heap of NZ kids who are getting scholarships to Aus schools affiliated with the clubs. Seems the Aus scouts are better as well. How did SBW slip through the net? They pluck them out of school here, RTS played for NZ schools union and league for Otahuhu College before being signed by the Roosters. I know he isn't the only example, so I don't know what the fark the Warriors scouts are doing to earn their crust
RTS was with the Warriors as a teenager.
Fittler and Daley were much better than Mundine, but I think there was the odd time he was unfairly overlooked .

How did SBW slip through the net?I'm amazed at the amount of NRL players that are NZ qualified. Which makes the under performance of the Warriors and the Test team bewildering.
The under performance of the test team in recent years is down to Kidwell. Even with the amount of Kiwi qualified players we still don’t come close to the depth of Oz so we’re always a bit behind the 8 ball. We’ve usually struggled for at least one decent half out of two and have had to resort to Harris.
-
Sam Burgess deserved to get off his charge after the story came out that he rang Paul Kent one morning and spent a good 10 minutes telling him to go fuck himself.
-
Cowboys v Broncos is 2 teams dropping the ball at each other.
It has contained what I think is the softest "obstruction" call I've seen
-
Was thinking the refs were showing some charity to the Warriors this week, and refereeing fairly...
Until Adam Blair gets sin binned for the biggest ‘nothing to see here’ obstruction call I’ve even seen.
He turns to chase a kick, holds his line and stops, manly player runs into him. Monty Betham says it’s a correct call because Blair has stopped. Surely to fuck there is no rule saying he can’t stop running?
That shit right there is why this is he first time I’ve watched NRL in 3 or 4 months.

Snatching defea.....

Woohoo.

The reverse mockers worked @Donsteppa

I said I wouldn't watch this week. I check the score. 18-0. Mrs Mariner asks if I am going to put it on. I say no, if I do they will lose 18-22
I relent. Next thing I know it's 18-16 and my wife is looking at me like I am a soothsayer.
Thank fuck for a forward pass.

Defence and slippery conditions won the game for the Warriors. Manly had most of the ball but could only do something with it once Adam Blair was sin binned thanks to another bad call by the refs.
Chanel Harris-Tavita is starting to impress me, had a really great game on both offence and defence. His hit on Tommy Turbo was awesome. Needs to bulk up in the off-season though.
I like some of the young pieces the Warriors have (Harris-Tavita, Lawton, Keighran, Herbert, Pompey, Curran) and they could develop into good players for next season (we're not making the playoffs). Still need to add another big bopper (maybe bring back Manly's Toafofoa Sipley?). Wouldn't waste salary cap space on Manly hooker Koroisau, better off targeting a cheaper option like Canberra Raider Sam Williams.
Players to keep around for next season:
Fullback: Tuivasa-Sheck, Perham
Wings: Fusitua, Maumalo, Pompey
Centres: Hiku, Herbert, Keighran, Milne
Halves: Nikorima, Harris-Tavita, Green
Backrowers: Harris, Blair, Burr, Curran, Tevaga, Papalii
Frontrowers: Paasi, Afoa, Ah Mau, (free agent)
Hookers: Lawton, Roache, (free agent) -
@Sneakdefreak should never have moved Mason Lino. He and Harris Tevita could have been a future 6-7 axis.
Time to flush a bunch of these older guys down the dunny and start again. We need some aussie steel in the pack. If we can't go out and get a James Graham or a Steve Price type player then go scout out QLD cup and up north to find a hooker, front rower, and or a back rower who has a chip on their shoulder and would kill for a chance to impress on the big stage. Those guys won't fold when the going gets tough -
Qld Cup is pretty shit
I would sell or shoot Blair, and can't see why you would keep papalii unless he's on $60k
Need a good hooker, a dynamic backrower, 2 metre eater tough props, and pace out wide.
That's a lot of holes to fill.
