NPC - news, injuries etc

@Bovidae McWhannell was still in a moon boot at the club final (he broke his leg during the club season and needed surgery) I am not sure if he will return during the M10 Cup Season. Not sure if Seu's injury was Super Rugby ending or season ending.
I have heard Waikato have signed a lock out of Canterbury...

Yes, was mentioned on here. Antonio Shalfoon, out of Lincoln.
Any club locks worthy of selection? I see that Peniasi Iowane played for Tech during the season. He was involved a few seasons back.

@Canes4life It will certainly be interesting to see who'll replace Apisai in the squad and who'll get game time if Aumua is not on the field. No matter how much I dislike the Thompson twins signing with Wellington, I want them to do well, so I hope Tyrone gets enough opportunities to develop at M10 Cup level and becomes Aumua's back-up either this or next season.
Tyrone Thompson is not even the number one hooker at his combined MSP club side, Valentine Meachen holding down that spot. Not sure about Meachen's plans for this season re whether he too might make a play for the Manu Samoa side for the World Cup but if not then he probably still be playing Mitre10 Cup rugby somewhere (has had limited spells (try outs?) at all of wellington, Manawatu and BoP.

@OleOleOle Taleni Seu's injury was a lumbar spine fracture so I don't think he will be rushed back.
If he and McWhannell are both out for the NPC season it makes sense to look outside the province for locks. Caird moving to Northland meant less depth and experience.

I don't think it's that clear cut. Tyrone missed a lot of games due to injury, Hurricanes U20/Dev and Maori U20.
Half of Meachen's starts were in games that Tyrone didn't play. I think they were rotated quite a bit. -

@Bovidae OK, I missed that!! : Caird wasn't offered a contract so a pretty clear message that Waikato were not to fussed if he moved on. Peni Ioane is a good player but maybe getting a little long in the tooth. Hopefully Shalfoon can deliver!

We don't need Aussies in our comp. I don't mind Island and Minnow players. NRC is a poor from my perspective.

@Stargazer it’s actually a tricky one,I know Northland signed Debreczini from Australia, but to be fair, we did’nt really have a first five of quality at the time and other than looking around another union, you are better off investing in a player of similar stature that’s running around in club footy.
If you do pick up an overseas player, as long as your helping to develop a local player alongside that player.I know that Counties Manukau is geographically close to Auckland and they have attracted some really good players down the motorway in the past, so it is quite interesting they decided to look to OZ.
On saying all of that ,there’s been plenty of examples of Kiwis ending up in Australian super rugby teams and I must admit I have enjoyed watching how those players have gone.
In summary, it actually makes it interesting, Debreczini is an example of a player when he came to NZ we all probably were not sure about how he would go ,but his game improved out of site when he turned out for the Taniwha last year..and he showed when he got his opportunity for the Chiefs he was was much more improved than the player that was running around for the Rebels.
