and for what it's worth Coney was choking up on the radio commentary after they won, so keep things in perspective for Smithy. Unless Hawke's Bay is playing he is fine by me.

Those guys have to sit there and listen to all the triumphalism from other nations. They also grew up in an era when NZ were pretty much a joke / afterthought in world cricket.

Personally I can forgive a bit of wearing their hearts on their sleeves and / or schadenfreude

edited in the interests of Boo's cardiac health. In return I expect him to have an early night Sunday...

Not sure if this has been posted previously but if it has then it can get done a second time so we can enjoy it all over again. It sums up perfectly our love/hate relationship about our currently loved Black Caps.

Was that the perfect cricket pitch? If you applied yourself you could score runs. If you took risks and chanced your arm you could score fast. There was a bit of movement available for the quicks and turn for the spinners.

Unlike the smash and bash of recent years that was a proper cricket match. Batsmen and bowlers were rewarded for good technique, patience and application. Goes to show you don't need to see teams scoring 350 runs a piece to be exciting

Then they put another indian in the comms box with that lady and it was just awkward

Just watched the highlights on Sky UK.

Much as I like Ian Smith, he was embarrassing to listen to in this match

He was, but he needed to balance out the pro India crap from the rest of the box.

Look, I know we are shit, flaky and have our limitations. But when you are 11-3 and hit a boundary, commentating “Normal Service resumes” is straight out disrespectful.

One of the Indian comms, and I quote, said "come on India, you can do this!!". Doull and Smithy had to do something to balance out that bullshit. In the end it just made the win that much sweeter.

I think Smithy tries hard to be balanced. Sure he is barracking for NZ but he was quite complementary about the Indians too

Well that was a good piece of news to wake up to.

Matt Henry bowling extremely well. Fancy that.

Just call us Pakistan 1992....we got this fellas.

Santner was absolutely phenomenal in the middle stages. Just so you know.

Easy to look good when Henry has decimated and demoralised the top order.

They kept panning to Hamish Marshall as well. He must be leading a tour group?

I actually don't mind commentators supporting one side as long as they still call it accurately. There is a limit to that of course but when I used to listen to npc commentary on radiosport they'd often have clearly parochial commentators calling the game, but it always added to the game. They were clearly passionate and hearing the bitter disappointment in their voice when they were losing and the elation when they were winning addedto the intensity for me.

The look on Ganguly's face when Smith is going ballistic after the Dhoni runout was priceless. He (Ganguly) was getting annoying at the end before the collapse. Manjrekar is the worst of the Indian comms with his bias. Bhogle is the most impartial.

All are better than Slater though.

Makes me wish we had a better balance between ex players and reporters. Being an international cricketer gives some insight into the mindset of the players but doesn't necessarily make good commentators.

Bhogle almost always sounds upbeat. At one stage last night he said something like - "It's the world Cup semi and the Kiwis are winning" - and sounded pleased about it.

I quite liked Ganguly's commentary overall - he was asked early on if he was nervous - and he admitted he was.

I didn't really mind any of them frankly. I thought it was perfect
