@canefan can see their cricket falling in a heap if their governance is anything like the leadership in the rest of the country. That was a team unlike any from the republic in my time at least
Look at the Zimbabwe Cricket team. They are being crushed by Netherlands at the moment.

Ouch! Look at these results
Explains why Afghanistan is in this CWC and not Zimbabwe.

Absolutely!

@Sneakdefreak cant recall the name, but was listenign to an interview with former Afghanistan Coach (think he was English?) a couple of weeks back and he was saying he had to take a different route to and from trainings every day, armed guards at trainings and the like...shame really, cos that is likely to hinder any chance of them getting to much better, let alone ever hosting a match!

If Al-Qaeda catch you playing cricket you are goneski apparently, so it is an achievement just playing the game. They almost have to move camp to another country, but that doesn't help grassroots development
-
@taniwharugby I recall the first team that played an international match this century after the invasion was made up of former refugees who had fled to Pakistan, UAE and other parts of the world. Wonder if that's still where they get their squad from?

Looks like thundery showers all tonight in London but should clear up in time for Eng v Aus at Lord's.
Boult would love to be bowling here this morning. Grey skies, mid 20s and about 70% humidity.
If those ball don't swing in this kind of conditions they never will (without sandpapering).Looks to be similar tomorrow and only clearing in time to start so ball could be nipping around. Add to that the threat of the occasional heavy shower (thunderstorm) and a possible D/L calculation......

Given there is now a mathematical chance for England to miss the finals, this game takes on a bit of a different complexion than what it seemed last week.
If it were a 'dead rubber', then you could argue Australia should rest Starc and maybe Cummins, while England could look to rotate through their squad as well.
But now there's an opportunity to put some real pressure on England, so I reckon we go all guns blazing.
-
@barbarian it's the Aussie way. Hell, if we are in the same situation (say in the final round of RR) I would expect the black caps to try and put England to the sword. I think they will lose to a full strength Aussie side, then the blowtorch really goes on vs India
-
Good start by Australia. Not going overboard in tough conditions just setting a solid platform.

Every one has got a commentator that makes their tits bleed - introducing Michael Fakking Clarke !!
Is he Australias answer to Nasser Hussein ?
Nasser's OK. Gives some good insight. It's Botham who's utter crap.

Interesting match this. Dunno who I want to win.
Can't stand the likes of Smith and Warner but an Oz win would at least piss off the whiny. holier-than-thou Pom sports media.
