NPC - news, injuries etc

Yeah but you guys moan about it every time a signing is made. For christ sake, Hawkes Bay have plenty of talent playing in Super Rugby. Next year the Canes have Flanders, Evans, Walker-Leawere, Toala, Lowe and will most likely sign up Keruru-Symes, McClutchie and Farrell. 8 players from a province like Hawkes Bay is exceptional and I haven't even touched on the likes of Fakatava, Makaele Tu'u etc at other franchises. Wellington is always going to feature more players because of the share size and talent pool they can select from. It's just the way it is.
-
@Canes4life I'm still waiting for any evidence that the Canes will sign Kereru-Symes, McClutchie and Farrell. K-S trained with them during preseason, so he might be, but McC wasn't. If only the Landers would finally publish that list of youngsters that they have reportedly signed ...
-
@Canes4life It will be awesome if the Canes do have that many Magpies on their books, but it will be an anomaly.
No one expects the Magpies to have more players than Wellington, we just expect Magpies players to get a fair go, which arguably they haven't in the past.

@Nepia the majority were all promising players out of St Pats Town. Probably says alot about Hawkes Bay and their inability to develop players properly more than anything. No wonder you guys fail to attract talent.
What's the point in discussing this with you as you're just flat out trolling now.
-
@Stargazer I hope we don't sign Keruru-Symes because he is only going to sit behind Coles, Aumua and Riccitelli. I'd rather him go to the Blues or Highlanders where he has more of a chance of succeeding. (more game time).
-
@Canes4life I definitely don't want him to go to the Blues (could stall his development). I hope they sign him at the Highlanders, esp if Ash Dixon doesn't return (not sure if he will).
-
@Nepia you asked me to provide names of promising players out of Wellington that signed for Hawkes Bay/their academy over the last few years. I did that and you shut them down like they won't have any chance of succeeding. Isn't that the risk you take when signing kids out of school? They are labeled promising for a reason, it's whether provinces like Hawkes Bay can develop that talent and turn them into pro rugby players. I guess some provinces do it better than others.
-
@Canes4life You provided 4 names after claiming HB had been taking the best of Wellington’s talent. They’re clearly not the best of Wellington’s talent if they left the Canes home province and are struggling to get starts for the Magpies.
-
They were some of Wellington's best school talent at the time. St Pats Town won the premiership and they were all instrumental in that campaign. Whether they go on and achieve higher honours or not is irrelevant - at the end of the day they were some of Wellington's best school kids that year and you guys got your mits on them.

LOL at this:

Proof that that the Bay can develop young talent into good pro and semi-pro (NPC) rugby players, who get or will get regular starts/game time for the Magpies and some of whom have SR contracts (or - in Emerson's case - has played for AB7s Development):
Folau Fakatava, Jonah Lowe, Tiaan Falcon, Devan Flanders, Marino Mikaele-Tu'u, Danny Toala, Kianu Kereru-Symes, Lincoln McClutchie, Mason Emerson, Pouri Rakete-Stones, and - of course - older players like Gareth Evans and Brad Weber. All of them went to school in Hawke's Bay and played age grade rugby for us. And that's only examples of players who are still playing for/in the Bay. And more are coming: Josiah Tavita-Metcalfe, Jacob Devery, Tim Farrell, Will Tremain etc. And then there's the return of Caleb Makene. I wouldn't mind a few others coming home, too ...
We have gaps in our squad that can't be filled locally, so that's why some players from other provinces (who often tried - but failed - to get selected in their home province's academy or Mitre 10 cup squad) come try their luck in the Bay and some manage to make it into the squad for a year or two, but not often with much success.

This is the November 2015 article on Brighouse, Donaldson and Nelson-Murray signing for Hawke's Bay.

Michael Buckley is a Hawke's Bay boy, went to Napier BHS and played for Hawke's Bay Under 18 team in 2013 at flanker.

Maybe the best of the hitherto unproven (or should that read as anwanted) young talent coming out of the Bay is better than that coming out of Wellington?

Is this a not so subtle dig at those guys that turn up from Auckland in particular that get given contracts but fail to set the world on fire. I am talking about backs in particular. I see we have still got one signed up but he did appear to have slightly more goning for him than a lot of the others.
-
@Stargazer I note the Joe 'Apikatoa has been backl playing club rugby for the last couple of weeks and the other player you are probably referring to is also playing club rugby but on the flank and not the hooking position that he held a HB contract for. Incidentally Marvan Karawana started the season playing in the backs moved to the blindside flank and is now back playing premier club rugby in the midfield.

@Stargazer If we have poached so many players, who are they? Last I looked the likes of Aumua, Fidow, Numia, Savea, Perenara, Garden Bachop (brothers), Umaga Jensen (twins), Proctor, Coles, Toomaga Allen, Goosen all grew up in Wellington. I really don't get your point. I think you just like having a whinge.
Wasn't one of them poached from the Melbourne Rebels?
-
@taniwharugby Yes he is. You dodged a bullet there, sadly one that Mr. Philpott did not.

Yeah, those three Wellingtonians seem to have been surpassed by young HB talent already.
