Highlanders must be gnashing their teeth about the draw with the Bulls, they'd have been secure.

Can you crusader superfans take your irrelevant shit out of our gloat thread please? I couldn't give a fuck about the refs for a game none of us will watch.

How fucked is Australian rugby? Mega fucked? Or ultra-mega fucked?

@mariner4life That game is relevant to the Chiefs' (and Highlanders') spot on the table, so you should give a f*ck.

    Nope

    Quite absolutely this.

Great that we will lose to the Saders next week (or even better, trip then up and let some one else win), but this team isn’t quiiiiiiite good enough.

Much, much, better that we are with BBBR and Cane back, plus ALB, we are still only dangerous, but sadly not a Super winner.

If we can trip up that many teams in a run though, I’ll be drunk for a week.

I do think we should sign Debreczeni next year (I’ve even learned how to spell it).

I saw some headline somewhere midweek about how pleased they were that the Reds had beaten the Blues.......

Damn, the Chiefs turn it on in their last two regular season matches. Crazy.

In my mind they were hopeless all season and near 14th on the table rather than in the top 8.

Decent ground to watch rugby in, went to dinner at my favourite Melbourne restaurant Supernormal before the game so all in all it was a good night.

I'm going to go see the Warriors play at Bankwest at end of July so I too would like to compare as well. Hopefully I don't get the shits too much with the Warriors, well TBF I'm 100% going to get shits, but just depends if it's enough for me not to want to go to the game!

@Stargazer I can’t help feel the experiment of playing DMac at first five earlier in the season hurt the chiefs badly ..thanks for nothing Mr Hansen

I am bound to be accused of white knighting here but I'm pretty sure that if you go back to those games you will see about a 10% performance by the forwards compared to how they are now trucking. Yes, DMac tried to compensate by taking on too much himself (and failing) but he wasn't the main cause of the shit performances by any stretch.

On a separate topic, those that were screaming for Cooper's head mid season should look at what he and the team have managed to do with the fill in players. They have managed to turn so many average guys into quality performers over the last half of the tournament.

Now, if we make it to another game against the Saders it should be a cracker. If there are any front rows in the comp that can stand up to the AB one in red and black it is the Chiefs.

@ACT-Crusader Debreczini is signed for another season with Northland, from what I understand they have made an offer to extend his stay at the Taniwha..
Having chatted to Jack on a few occasions he’s a really good bugger, first thing that strikes you is how tall he is..around 6,3 ..he actually took the opportunity to play in NZ to improve his game after being let go by the Rebels

After an outstanding season for Northland in 2018 and seeing a couple of bite size sample of his form for the chiefs in the last couple of weeks I think we can say he easily he’s definitely a better player than he was at the Rebels..
Finals footy will be another step up for Jack so it will be interesting to see how he goes, I must say having Brad Weber at 9 and ALB at 12 has been a great help..

Must admit I felt a little sorry for Quade Cooper last night, everything he tried turned to custard , not to mention getting a big don’t argue from one of the smallest players on the paddock Brad Weber

Seems a shadow of the player who tried all the tricks back in 2011 and pulled everything off..
Great performance from the chiefs last night, I think they will add some real value to the finals, same could not have been said for the Rebels and Tahs

PS there is an article that has been posted on the Fox Sports rugby website after last nights rebels v chiefs game ,they chat to Jack Debreczini about the difference with NZ and Australia in terms of their super rugby teams..really interesting read if someone can upload the article..sorry hopeless when it comes to IT stuff..

Now, if we make it to another game against the Saders it should be a cracker. If there are any front rows in the comp that can stand up to the AB one in red and black it is the Chiefs.

In turn, those who were regularly ‘white-knighting’ Cooper should remember that the Chiefs spent the first six weeks of the competition playing like they were still in November - in all aspects of their game plan, fitness, and combinations. And if that wasn’t some sort of mark against a coaching panel, I don’t know what is.

Sure, there’s the valid argument that you win competitions at the end of the season, not the start, but you still have to do enough at the start to get to the finals (I’m still sour about the Sunwolves in Hamilton, especially given their form since)

However, what he has done remarkably well is the turnaround. Starting with the wise decision to override Hansen’s ‘DMac at 10’ obsession, and somehow cobbling together a decent tight five out of loose forwards and the various injury dramas. I’m still marvelling at the Steamers 2017 loose forwards becoming very effective 2019 Super rugby locking cover.

Awful start, great recovery, brilliant finish to the regular season.
