    The red card on Aussie #8: justified when you look at the thresholds being applied for U20 players.

    It wasn't a shoulder charge, but it was rising contact above the shoulder line and was never going low enough. Ball carrier may have dipped slightly into contact - which is a "rugby play" 😉 -but given the height the tackle started, and the direction he was going, there was a significant degree of recklessness which goes into dangerous territory.

    Now the u/20s campaign has gone the way a lot of people on the fern thought it would.
    What’s the thoughts on individuals in this 20s squad are many/any good enough for SR contract in 2020 ?? disregarding the 3 who already have one. because it’s likely some are going to be picked up due to the current lack of depth.

    I assume you mean U20?

    And the guys with SR contracts being Etene Nanai-Seturo, Billy Proctore and Devan Flanders?

    Personally, I think we can't really draw too many conclusions from this tournament. They have a shit coach.

    I'd like to see them play Mitre 10 Cup first.

    Not because of the the U20s campaign but more for what I reckon we'll see at NPC level, but I reckon Taufa Funkai will get a Super Rugby gig next season.

    Baffling that Philpott totally ignored him in the loss to South Africa. He'd have asked questions of the Boks' line speed, and had them back on their heels within minutes.

    @Chris Davan Flanders signed with the Canes ages ago (2019: development contract; 2020-2021 full contract). Yep, indeed, I forgot Fainga'anuku.

    There are a number of SR spots available for 2020 Highlanders,have maybe 10,Crusaders may have 7 odd,Blues have a few and Canes and chiefs 2 0r 3 each.so potentially over 20 to 22 contracts available

    Gregory made a few bad mistakes in the last game, but he was trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat so I can't blame him too much. Definitely has speed and physicality, whether or not it translates at the SR level I'm not sure.

    Plumtree I thought looked good, too short for a (proper) lock but with some bulk could make a decent loose forward.

    I'll be surprised if half the team even make a dent at ITM.

    @barbarian said in 2019 under 20's:

    From the report of the Judiciary: red card upheld; high tackle; low-end offending

    This incident was not a shoulder charge under the “Framework for High Tackles”. At the moment of contact the Player’s arms were moving forward as he attempted to grasp the player. It is, however, a high tackle as there was direct contact by the Player’s right shoulder to the throat and neck area of Eng #7. The Player was attempting a dominant tackle and there was some force involved in this contact.

    There may have been other contact between the players and in particular the Player’s left shoulder near the ball as well. There was no definitive contact to Eng #7’s head. Given the direct contact to the throat and neck area with force and a high degree of danger, a red card is warranted in this situation. The Player had the opportunity to make a lower tackle in the circumstances. The Player has failed to satisfy the onus on him to show, on a balance of probabilities, that the referee’s decision to issue a red card was wrong.

    The Committee found this to be low-end offending which carries a two-week entry point. They reduced this to one week based on the player’s clean record, remorse, age, apology and conduct at the hearing.

    Tafa is suspended for the semi-final on Monday 17 June but free to play thereafter.

    HIGH RISK CONTACT TECHNIQUE WARNINGS

    There's quite a list of players who have received such a warning. Only one Kiwi.

    The following players received High Risk Contact Technique Warnings arising from match-day three under the trial in operation at the World Rugby U20 Championship 2019 with respect to upright tackles which result in contact with an opponent’s head:

    * Leicester Fainga'anuku (New Zealand No.11)

    Coaches now have the opportunity to review the player’s tackling technique to the satisfaction of the Citing Commissioner in order to have the first warning removed from the players’ records. Two Technique Warnings in the tournament will result in a one-match suspension.

    Interesting point from Sumo: Burke played 80 minutes against S Africa, and is starting again today, without any sign that Reihana is injured. Why?????

    Another mistake from McLeod, followed by a mistake from Boshier, and Wales are the first to score a try.

    5 - 0 Wales
