So based on what has happened so far does anyone wanna even try and predict what will happen vs the Bangies ?
Logic dictates this should be about as tough as the game vs SL but this tourny is totally up in the air even at this early stage.
Factor in the venue conditions. Apart from the WI bouncing out Pakistan and us demolishing SL the spinners have done the most damage. I don't think we should lose but a spinners deck isn't going to make life easy

@MN5 We've played them six times in ODIs the past couple of years - in the UK and NZ.
The score is 4-2 to us, but they won the big game in the Champions Trophy.
We've got a better team now than in that game (especially if we open with Nicholls), so I'm optimistically saying 75-25 that we win.
I think their batting is stronger than their bowling, so we might want to put them in and try to knock the top off their order.

Not sure as to whether SA were just poor or the Bangles really good. $$$$$ ?
Our openers better fire thats for sure -

Incidentally, I predict they'll open with Munro!
To win this cup, we need to get into the semis and pray that a couple of batsmen go nuts. Munro could in theory do that.
Of course, in theory, Scarlett Johanssen may want to go out with me, but ...

Munros unbeaten 50 will piss his haters off massively. I'm picking at least two more decent scores to push his claims then everyone will get to say they told us so when he shits the bed in a semi ( provided we make it which is less than guaranteed despite our amazing start )

He's got another couple of easy teams to beat up on before we play one of the big guns

The "easy" teams aren't that though are they ? we've seen that already.

^^^^^ this. If the comp gets good, 6 wins could get you there with upsets. Would be bloody interesting; loads of teams in the mix going down the stretch.
I'll say it again: great format

P.S. fucking suck it, Poms.
Particularly Nasser Hussain who was probably the main source of "England won't be worried about chasing a big total" repeatedly
Christ that's an understatement. He's bloody terrible.
I think England need about 35 from the last two overs with tail enders when one hit a streaky four of a clear edge and Hussain commentated that "they just keep coming, it just does not stop".
I think it was 49.1 overs gone when he first realisd that perhaps England weren't going to win. But even in the postmatch he just kept dropping England are fantastic comments.
"They elected to bat first, as they know they can chase down any total against anybody, anywhere" - errr .. they didn't Nassar!
"Two magnificient 100's, with contributions all the way down the order showing just how deep this England team bats" - not deep enough Nassar!Seriously, it was like listening to All Blacks commentators ...

Step aside Mark Nicholas. England may have produced a worse commentator than you.
Kumar Sangakara though, christ is there anything in cricket he can't do ? what a great guy to hear talking even when his team were being thrashed. Absolute gentleman.

@nzzp Yeah - they've pretty much shown all along that they really, really, really want Munro to open and I can understand their rationale. They want and need the Baz flying start.
Unfortunately, Munro has shown pretty convincingly that he's a low probability option - so the "selecting" is not so much selecting as wishful thinking.

@MN5 Sanga was one of my favourite players, being a lefty I tried to model my technique on his. His numbers, especially in tests, were absolutely phenomenal after he gave up the gloves. Glad that his commentary has not changed my opinion of him - dead set legend.

Fuck yeah......despite their considerably later start to the format Sri Lanka have produced more legends in Test Cricket than we have which irks me a little bit.
I'm a lefty as well, I have the same birthday as Brian Lara too.....but in terms of technique and emulation we'll leave it at that. The overhand slog served me pretty well in indoor cricket back in the day though.

@MN5 Sangakkara was on the same train back to London from Cardiff on Sat. He was happy to talk to fans and pose for selfies even though he clearly wanted to relax by himself. My son got a selfie with him which even topped the 30 quid the boy made from collecting the returnable beer cups at the ground!

This looks like it could be a remarkable tournament.
It's got me actually watching cricket for the 1st time in years.

Have a look at the batting averages of all of the openers being used in this tournament.
There's a couple of outliers averaging over 50 - both Pakistanis, an Afghani, Shai Hope.
Most of the best players are in the mid to high 40s. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Quentin de Kock, Hashim Amla, Davey Warner, Johnny Bairstow. There's quite a few of them.
Almost all of the others are in the low 40s or very high 30s - Jason Roy, Martin Guptill, Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch.
Then a few mid-30s - both Bangladeshis are around 36. The two Sri Lankans are 36 and 35. The more experienced Afghani averages 34.
And down below them is Colin - averaging 26 and not much more taking his stats purely as an opener.

Haters? Or Not Raters?
I've really really wanted him to succeed but have accepted he's unlikely to.
Think Henry Nicholls is the better option.
Don't consider myself a Hater.
