Quote from the HB Today
The Hastings Rugby and Sports and Napier Technical game wasn't played after a supporter connected to both clubs died after a heart attack while watching the women's final between the same two clubs earlier in the day.
Absolutely devastating news. My thoughts and prayers to the family involved.

@Higgins Actually the game was played, except for the last minute. But, yes, really sad to read that!
Edit: Oh, sorry, I misunderstood your post. The article in your post is about the women's final, which was stopped with one minute to go. I assume you were talking about the premiers game between the same clubs.

Watched my first ever game at Tamatea Park for Pirates v NOB
M.The 64 - 24 score flattered NOB who looked good with the ball, but fell off a few tackles and had some bad defensive reads.
The ref was very whistley - the game had 2 yellow and 2 red cards, evenly spread amongst both teams. From where I was standing, both the reds were for high shots, that were barely worth yellows let alone reds.
Best for Pirates were Hann (who got one of the yellows, and Lord the hooker. First time I have seen the hooker for a team take all the kicks. The number 12 for Pirates (Tyrone Dodds-Edwards) looks promising even though a bit raw - he seems to have the same size as Jordie, but better proportioned and more muscles.
NOB had quite a few of the colts/prem reserve team playing. Best was Michael Buckley on the wing and Patrick Teddy at prop. Ellery Wilson played the full game, and was quite effective, despite the Pirates subs yelling to their players to run around him as he was "old as f*ck".
-
@Stockcar86 Patrick Teddy is gaining a increasing reputation as someone to watch as an up and coming prop.
But we've got a few of those already that are in/out/around the Magpies - Tim Farrell, Pouri Rakete Stones. Mason Kean, Josiah Tavita-Metcalfe.
What do you reckon about him, Stockcar86?
-
Teddy is still pretty young (18?) but seems to have all the skills. Holds up his side of the scum well, seems to do his job as a lifter, and is very effective with his build with ball in hand, more like a hooker than a prop). If he keeps injury free and continues to learn his trade, could easily seem him in black and white in the next couple of years, then maybe a higher level after proving himself.

Reading that appraisal it is almost certain he would already be a Hurricane had he gone to a school in Wellington.
-
@Stargazer Their father played at MSP, so probably not. It must be noted their club only plays in the second division down here at the moment. Had they attended Scots College they would probably already be on full time contracts at the Hurricanes given past form of those involved.

Snippets from the HBT article about the weekend's games:
Along with [first five-eighth Adam] Blake fullback Mikey Vuicakau shone in the villagers backline. Loosies Josh Kaifa and Lucas Goodin had massive workrates for Clive.
.
Still in one piece:Magpies locks Geoff Cridge and Tom Parsons were inspirational in the Central engine room.
.
So I assume we can scratch Paese from today's Hawke's Bay XV line-up?His centre Saia Paese was red carded in the second half while Tanalised Napier Pirate Rugby and Sports tighthead prop Kelsey Miller was marched 20 minutes into the match. Promising props Patrick Teddy and Lee Moleili again exceeded expectations for the visitors.
Willis and tighthead prop Pouri Rakete-Stones were tireless workers in the host pack and second five-eighth Tyrone Dodd-Edwards was the best of the backs.
