Charles Alaimalo
Is that Solomons little brother, who he was supposedly trying to help get a contract with Northland while negotiating himself too?
-
@taniwharugby Yes, that must be him. Weird how he's endede up with the Stags. Also noticing that none of the Costa brothers is in the squad.
-
@Stargazer From the article re: the new players and Costa.
There are some notable new names in the training squad, including 2017 New Zealand secondary schools loose forward Charles Alaimalo. He was part of the Hamilton Boys' High School team which progressed to the 2017 national secondary schools final
The loose forward is the younger brother of Chiefs outside back Solomon Alaimalo, and has linked with the Woodlands club in Southland.
Josh Moorby is also set to make a move south from Waikato in the coming weeks to have a shot at playing for the Stags.
Moorby was part of the New Zealand sevens development squad this year and has played for the Waikato development and under-19 teams.
Last year's Canterbury B player of the year Matt James has also joined the setup and the loose forward is playing his club rugby for Woodlands.
The Stags decision-makers were still looking at other possible options outside the province to fill potential gaps.
Flanker Phil Halder is playing overseas at the moment and was not named in the squad named on Thursday, however Hewett said he would be back for the Mitre 10 Cup season.
Halfback Nico Costa is in Argentina at the moment but he too will return for his second year of his contract with the Stags.

Well deserved, has consistently been one of the best club players in Christchurch for the last 2-3 years.

I am hearing that Hawkes Bay may have snared 2 big signings
Isaia Walker-Leawere from Wellington and Vince Aso from Auckland .,might be one for you Stargazer to follow up..!.
Got this from a pretty good source ...that would give the Magpies a decent battery of locks -
@Steven-Harris I thought Aso had another year or two on his Auckland contract?

@canefan At least you know why Walker-Leawere isn't starting now.
-
Well ferretted out Steve, as Nepia stated we are still in final confirmation mode as the usual sources that know for certain have clammed up after I first hit them up about the lock one. Nonetheless the origianal source said he was absolutely sure about the signing. I had heard bar room whispers about the Aso one as well down in the Waitoa Social Club last Saturday night but put that down to a real pie in the sky situation (not to mention a slight lack of full sobriety - they have some real nice beers there) and have not even started to make further investigations but with your sources as well it looks like there just might be something to it. If true he could hardly go to the 'Poo with their AB midfield back and sometime winger/sometime fullback already on their books.
-
The world awaits with tredidation as to when the HBRFU will announce their allocation to the combined NOB-M club. Having said that the Texans do have a number of Gisborne BHS old boys playing for us so there might be a very slim remote chance Walker-Leawaere might elect to go there but I won't be holding my breath on that one. At least he would be a better fit than the last import we had that mysteriously changed clubs mid season. I will say no more about that situation.

@Dice We'll take Fakatava in exchange.
We have already given you a former HB B halfback, what more do you want? Chris Eaton is doing nothing by the way. Speaking of halfbacks where is Jono Hickey going to be playing, when fit???????????????????
-
@African-Monkey From what I have heard it is not Auckland so you can breath easier. Apparently the contract is rumoured to commence for the 2020 season.
-
@Steven-Harris So the only good lock that we have in Wellington fucks off. Great!
