@mariner4life how high you think Davey will jump?? Into low orbit?
What will be hilarious is if they leave Finch in and his form goes to shit, and leave Davey out
More hilarious if they drop Finch and put little Davey in and he fails miserably

Australia is going to win it, and it is going to be awful.
Nice try at the reverse curse, cockboy.
no reverse curse, i don't think we are a hope really. Aus are on a role.
I didn't mean to suggest for a moment NZ were a chance, just that we're not as dominant as we look right now.
We're still burdened with Marshes, for example.
Though of course the easy route is to:
- Replace SMarsh with The Angry Lesbian
- Shift The Waj down the order and put Warner back in with Finch.
Welcome to the Black Caps world......except this team has few, if any, passengers whereas in the past we've had a truckload of "can bat a bit, bowl a bit" types.
Only Mitch Santner in this squad and.......
.....only at test level.
-
I would include Warner. You either have a redemption story or a scapegoat ready made then

22 days ago I suggested on another thread they were the best value bet to win - I think they were paying $9 or $10. Now they're paying $5 and i reckon that's still reasonable money.
Much more likely to win than England IMO.

Taking two spinners to the UK, neither of which you have much faith in, is curious but Stead seemed insistent this summer he was going to do it.
Yeah very odd, looks like Ish will have a paid holiday.
Thinking back to the 1999 WC, didn’t Vettori go and not play a single game? (Too lazy to look it up..)They took Hart and Vettori and they played a total of one game combined - Hart against Scotland.
Could be different this time and at least Sodhi and Santner offer something with the bat so you can justify playing one of them a bit easier - but in England and...

Assuming a first XI of Guptill, Nicholls, Kane, Rossco, Latham, Neesham, de Grandhomme, Santner, Henry, Ferguson, Boult
When outmatched by some of the bigger sides I don't see how Satner offers a better chance of victory than playing Southee and hope he can get it swinging in the UK conditions - especially with the tournament starting in May.

I have to play a match this weekend and Hart is in our team (we are all meeting at the pub on Thursday to see who is who) Apparently a really nice guy in person but an absolute "meanie" on the cricket pitch.

It's live streaming now on https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/111733275/live-black-caps-announce-15man-cricket-world-cup-squad
But won't work for me at the office. Can someone provide updates? -

My internet is slow....damn Vodafone....

Probably the best squad we could put together although Blundell is a definite bolter into the squad.
-
Yeah I'd have preferred Seifert.
I think Stead's off to a bit of a rocky start as a selector. Hesson's biggest strength as coach was his ability to select well and his confidence in his selections meaning he'd give them a chance to grow into the side.
I'll give Stead the benefit of the doubt as he's new and still building up his experience of working with guys in the squad (and because Hesson started woefully too), but I think it's a work on for him.
-
@Cyclops That thought about Hesson's selecting vs Stead's occurred to me as well. Though Gavin Larsen and whomever else are the selectors are presumably still there.
Still, already Stead seems to chop and change a bit more than Hesson - though to be fair he is a new coach with his own ideas and I'm comparing to Hesson at the end of his regime, rather than the start.
Blundell is a slightly odd selection, given that Seifert was given the warm-ups and seems to be the more explosive batsman. Maybe they see Blundell as more of a like-for-like replacement for Latham? And presumably a better keeper.
-
@Siam said in 2019 Cricket ODI WC:
@Chris-B yeah that occurred to me too. Perhaps didn't like his glove work enough? A bit odd, but probably that selection way down the list of concerns given it's a role that most likely won't play. 🤔
If Latham isn't playing for whatever reason personally I'd want a fucken exceptional keeper taking over given the drop in batting quality that would come with it. If Blundell is that guy I'm happy with that.
Very happy with the squad overall, I think we're a chance provided someone can consistently support Boult.
Our Top order is as good as any in the tournament. Guppy, KW and Rossco are genuine worldbeaters in this form of the game and Latham and Nicholls are fine players too.

From what I remember Matthew Hart was about as intimidating as a 4th former in his playing days. Interested to hear what is so mean about him these days.
