SAM WARD APPOINTED AS THE ASSISTANT COACH FOR QBE NORTH HARBOUR
North Harbour Rugby is proud to announce that Sam Ward will be the Assistant Coach for QBE North Harbour Rugby!
QBE North Harbour’s Head Coach Kieran Keane said that he was pleased with the appointment.
“Sam demonstrated a strong understanding when it came to the nuts and bolts of Forward play and set piece- which will be important as we look to continue to grow our player group. He also showed strength in areas that I feel will not only complement our management team but add value to the other parts of our performance pathway”.
“And pleasingly, he has a strong connection and is extremely passionate about the Harbour community and its people, having grown up in the province and coached and supported a number of Harbour teams”
Ward, a Rosmini Old Boy, who supported the QBE Harbour wider training squad last year and more recently just finished a stint with the Tongan National Team as their Assistant Coach, said that coaching Harbour was something that he has always wanted to do.
“I am absolutely wrapped to have been given this opportunity. The Harbour Province and people have always been a big part of my life. I feel I have put in a lot of energy and effort to get here however the hard work for me starts now”
“There is a great core player group and some awesome talent developing through the community game - I’m excited to team up with Kieran and add value to the great work that has gone in around the Union over recent years.”
Ward will begin immediately and his portfolio with the QBE Harbour team will focus on Forward Play and breakdown, he will also provide Coach & Player Development Services within the community.

Taranaki, first the bad news, then the good news:
Taranaki Rugby announce largest deficit in operational history
Key signings for Yarrows Taranaki Bulls:
- Craig Clarke will be the new Taranaki forwards coach for 2019 (replacing Paul Tito)
- loosies Heiden Bedwell-Curtis (back from Manawatu) and Kaylum Boshier (Taranaki U19 and brother of Lachlan) have signed for the 2019 season
-
jeez, Parkinson walked into a perfect storm taking over Taranaki, guess it is a great opportunity to show his worth.
I was chatting to him soon after he was announced as heading there and he had already been doing some contracting and a couple of player managers told him he didnt need to haggle so much now, he was with Taranaki now, not Northland...

@Stargazer said in Mitre 10 Cup - news, injuries etc:
Ta$man has signed Joe Wheeler for the 2019 season.
Might be a reasonable signing if he's still got something to give. Hopefully have Parkinson and Strange playing lots of minutes and Wheeler playing the Alex Ainley old man role.

@Yeetyaah been a very long time for him to finalise negotiations...either him or his manager must be a pain to deal with...my understanding is he had been negotiating with Northland & another team (Waikato) since end of NPC last year and advised Northland in Jan he wasnt coming up here.
-
@taniwharugby Yeah I remember you saying to me on here a while back. Waikato a bit spoiled for talent.
-
@taniwharugby he played Ta$man,Northland ,Southland and Waikato off until he could find the best deal..I think Waikato were always going to win out given that he owns a house in Hamilton and has a brother in the academy.
The other player whom I understand is looking to move from Taranaki because of family reasons is Angus Taavao,
Both Waikato and Auckland are in the running for his signature
On paper,Waikato are assembling a very strong squad, and if Taavao signs, that will give them one hell of a set piece platform to work off.
