@smudge you could start a givealittle page for the entry fee, we'll all chip in..but only if you go for whatever award Treason nominated himself for and tell us how we can make you win it!
Yeah the old restructuring sucks!

That's a lot of awards, looks like just about every Sports Journalist in NZ got one.

My contribution to journalism these days is a fortnightly column in an obscure publication. Probably read by up to and including 25 people.
Let's do it!

MAte, do you listen to Trackside Radio in the moring between 6am and 7am?
Glen Lama (?) always has a lady on talking Rugby League. She is better to listen to for analysis than most of the blokes and also put NZ to lose to Fiji in a multi that came in!
Is she a journalist/Commentator? I can't think of her name currently

Lavina Good, right? I think she is a Sky Sports commentator and interviews the players. Definitely knows her stuff.

Thank you! That's the one. Know's her stuff which should come as no surprise being someone so into the sport but she is a rare commodity.
Compare her to Melody Robinson who is also into a sport siginificantly but is hopeless with analysis and point in time commentary.
In saying that, there is a great long list of guys that also fall into that pocket

I think what comes across with her is she really loves the sport and the teams she supports... that passion is not so obvious when listening to most pundits these days.
I don't have much of an issue with Melodie Robinson. What I like about her is she is quite a polished presenter and I'm pretty happy to see her leading a show or interviewing, plus I think she had 2 World Cups? Might be wrong about that but I seem to remember when she got into TV that she had more World Cups than the All Blacks in their history. You might be right about analysis and I have noticed that she doesn't offer an opinion that often, usually just acting as a conduit. One thing I remember is back when she was first on TV she was on Deaker's show and she sat in a darkened section that lit up when he wanted to talk to her. One time he commented that the discussion topic was too rough for her ears. Bit of a throw back

@stargazer loses all credibility with Mark Treason in there, or is this the one where they nominate themselves?
You also have to pay to enter, which puts off a lot of cheapskate journos (like myself) back in the day.
Bittersweet win for Logan Savory who loses his job next week thanks to Fairfax cuts.
WTF???? So they're even more irrelevant then. TP would be turning over in his grave, firstly at the trolls in journalism (present company excluded of course) and secondly that you have to pay to even get into the awards that bare his name.

Didn't know where else to post this. Article about the state of sports writing in NZ media.
Lonely days, sleepless nights as bell tolls for sports writers

@Nepia I think it's a good article hightlighting the sad state of sports journalism in NZ.
Written by one of our sadder journalists.
You can give us the abridged version if you like.

@Nepia I can't be bothered. I don't care if you're not interested, only because of who has written it.
You're taking this more seriously than intended.

I was disappointed when i got to the end. There was the makings of something interesting there, and he sort of skipped over it. It's half anecdote, then a quick summation of the lay-offs, and then it ended with a fizz.
It's an interesting topic for people like us who love sport, and wouldn't mind reading about it, but are given almost nothing.

@Stargazer No wonder the standard of reporting is so bloody low.
I didn't think the article was that well written, but what it outlines is disgraceful
ODT, as always, is an outlier, with their three sports journos attending most events in their patch, but even they've cut back on what might be considered "luxuries" - ie. sitting for all four days at a Ford Trophy match.
Steve Hepburn used to attend most away Highlanders games (edit: in NZ) but now might head to the Crusaders match in Chch and maybe an away playoff match in NZ.
