This has been one of the best test matches I've seen in recent years.

The pitch has a bit in it for everyone, and both bowling attacks have been fantastic.

It just means every run counts, and a century is a real achievement to be savoured - unlike on some flat deck in Brisbane where both teams score 600.

Kohli's ton was a belter, all guts and heaaaaaart. Yeah he's a flog but fuck me he can wield a stick.

I've got us just ahead at this point - a handy tail wag could put the lead above 250, which would be a very hard chase indeed.

    Fixed

Finch's finger is OK (pussy - walk it off) so he could come out to bat at the fall of next wicket.

If Paine and The Waj can hang around to get us to 220 in front, Finch could step in and have a whack along with the bowlers, and I reckon 250 might be a bit much to chase - even over 5 sessions - given fielding conditions are good and The Goat can pin down an end.

You Aussies realise that the rest of the world sees Kohli as an Aussie playing in a blue cap eh?

@siam Oh yes. I said a while ago he's the most Australian non-Australian cricketer I've ever seen.

The fact that he's a flog doesn't mean that I don't love watching him.

@barbarian Watching the bowling on that pitch has been spectacular. Slip cordon standing back half a mile.

How Bumrah hasn't managed to bowl the Aussies out three times already astounds me - the number of times he's beaten the bat!

He's only got three wickets for the match - he could/should have had a hatful!

there have been more than a few evil balls delivered. When a guy as talented as Kohli is wearing them deep in to his innings you know it's got a bit of spice to it.

Yeah I watched 90% of Kohli's innings and I still don't know how he didn't nick off 5 or 6 times in that innings.

Both sides have been riding their luck - the whole game could come down to Handscomb's catch, which really was the ultimate 50/50 call.

At least India will have something to blame if they lose.

Loving the cut of Paine's jib right now. Batting well, captaining well, keeping well, and taking no shit from the opposition either.

    Michael Clarke can get fucked

Really? I was pretty relaxed about the umpires giving it - if they are happy, it's out. Not sure it was 50/50; looked pretty clean if you understand how the TV works and that it can't show fingers hidden by teh ball

Oh I know. I think it's out, but I'm an Aussie and of course I'd say that.

By 50/50 I mean that I've seen those go both ways since they started referring them upstairs. It wouldn't have shocked me to see it given as not out.

Slow going this morning, but we are still yet to lose a wicket. Lead is 197, which is close to being enough but you'd hope for 250+.

I'm really enjoying this iteration of the Aussie cricket side. Light on skill and class, but big on determination. We're making the Indians work for every wicket and run.

This session is a case in point - I reckon in previous years we'd try and hit our way out of trouble, and lose 3-4 wickets in the process. But these guys are hanging on, working the singles and just generally gritting it out.

It's not highlight reel stuff, but it's been great to watch nonetheless.

Paine and Kohli still going on the verbal. Ump steps in. Fucking awesome heat out there.

Paine must be loving the fact that he'll probably keep up in Kohli's face with Lyon on. I'd be going verbal like nobody's business.

I did love 'you still have to bat again big head'. He's not Merv Hughes but light years ahead of the utterly classless last lot.

The collapse has arrived, we've lost about 4/5 in the last five overs.

But jeez this pitch looks unplayable. Cummins just was bowled by one that kept impossibly low, while Paine and Khawaja were caught by balls that reared off good lengths.

Lead is currently 241, which looks like it should be enough. If India can chase it down then they are doing very well indeed.

And that's why test cricket is so awesome. If the Indians can chase that, they bloody deserve their win. That 40 run lead is so critical right nwo
