Ive never known of a coach who has got such a free ride when it comes to shitty results. Not even Tana.
Nothing about the Wallabies over the last few years suggests they have a good coach. You can blame his assistants if you want but he is the guy who picked them and insists they don't need to change.
His selections have been a constant lottery of shuffling backlines, unbalanced back rows, revolving second rowers and 24 man teams.
Then there is acting like a complete clown in the coaches box and press conferences.
How the fuck he ever won coach of the year while under a second final warning for abusing refs is beyond comprehension.
How are you meant to build a strong team culture based on accountability around a guy like that? The only decent reason i have heard that he shouldn't be sacked is that RA can't afford it.
They should have thought of that before signing their second best openside flanker for multi millions or should have offloaded the over hyped, over paid righteous homophobe while they could.Quoted as it bears repeating.

Making the RWC final was the worst possible thing for Aus. The ARU board forgot that just four years earlier France made the final (and put up a better showing) without a coach at all.
Really makes you wonder what would have happened if the final minute against Scotland transpires differently.

Look, it's kinda stating the blatantly obvious, but if the only reason you are keeping the coach of the national rugby team in Australia is that you can't afford to replace him, then that is possibly the worst piece of governance of mainstream political sport that i have ever seen.

The issue isn't that they can't afford to pay another salary, the issue is they don't have ANY domestic coaches who they can turn to at Super level and with a straight face say "look we can't give you a pay increase but we can give you the opportunity".

Which would be ignoring all the other issues they've created through shit governance and stewardship of the game.
I point you back to my previous comments regarding one DO for all of Western Sydney.

well yes, it's a tangled web of ineptitude.
This is rugby in Australia, not underwater hockey. It's backed by and school tie brigade and the associated money. Where has the money gone? Why are the unions broke? Why are casual players funding the unions rather than the other way around? Why are high performance appointments based on affordability rather than results? It's damn near criminal
-
@mariner4life because the old school ties are politically aligned and don't have to think for themselves. If you can get a job via networking the old school contracts, why do you need to think?
That's generalising but there are a scary number of these people in positions of influence.

Explains Clyne.

Is that a joke? I'd be furious that a donkey like Scott Johnson was appointed to oversee me. At least Chieka has won things as a coach.

I hope they got him cheaper than Scotland did.
He has seemingly leveraged a career off working with Henry and Hansen. -

No way that Cheika still stand for that is there? Surely he will walk. Surely.
Perhaps that's the ARU's cunning plan.

You've got to ask what's the point of the press conference?
I thought it was an excellent snapshot of Australian Rugby.
30 seconds of disorganised inept failed attempts at doing something,
then 1 minute of confirming that nothing has been done - but don't worry, it's all in hand.
