@steven-harris Possibly the worst refereeing performance of the year.
Have to be a little bit satisfied with the gutsy finish from a scrapped together team. Faiane pretty handy 10 minute debut. -
@steven-harris yep, started with the lovely cut out pass from Faiane to the big break by Gregory and the support from Olsen to Cooper to McNamara to Hyland, superb.
@Northlandallday reckon the ref in the HB game was the worst we have had.

Have to be a little bit satisfied with the gutsy finish from a scrapped together team. Faiane pretty handy 10 minute debut.Really? We missed a few calls and his interpretation of a maul was a bit ridiculous but don't think any of the tries came from bad decisions. Only game we had affected by a ref this year was HB.
Silly mistakes killed us today. Sykes kick and 19 missed tackles in the 1st half were the difference. Still considering we were down so many first choice players it wasn't a bad effort.
Gregory has to stay in the midfield. Matiu and Moulds were huge in the pack. Considering Stokes wasn't originally in the squad he put in a good shift. Nock was very strong, don't know why we sub him for the sake of subbing him
-
@northlandallday I think thats the thing, he made an error and next minute they are scoring a try so made the error much larger, from our POV.
His maul calls were a bit frustrating, but he made a couple that we benefitted from too so at least he was consistent haha.
Oddest one was that scrum where he told them to use it, they proceeded to fark around for another 7 or 8 seconds to draw a penalty, that was shit.

Faiane pretty handy 10 minute debut.Got to disagree,we were the architects of our own demise, that first half we needed to use that wind by utilising Debreczeni’s boot, without 3 main lineout options it was always going to be a sturggle not o mention the 19 missed tackles in the first half.
I thought the scrum set piece in the main barring a couple of scrums were good.
What I enjoyed the most,we showed heaps of ticker..and many of the guys that have played more Dev rugby rugby stood up..Stokes,Manu and Albornez showed why they have stood up in the playing for the Dev squad..Great to Wiseguy Faiane play a cameo, his pass to Gregory inside the 22 was perfect, right into the players as he hit acceleration..
Today my best were Moulds,McNamara and Nock..Gregory came into his own in the last 10 -
@machpants to be fair,13 guys unavaible for the Taniwha today, several guys from the Development squad were running around for the Taniwha today.

Going to have to really stand up to even trouble the Mooloos, or at least improve some defending and decision making
Maybe not, are you not watching the DSW getting cleaned up 17 nil by Otago and its only 23 minutes gone?

Haha nope, nice to hear!

well, that makes next week a bit more interesting...Waikatos first loss since lifting the Shield?...
wonder how that will affect them going into next week, be a big effort getting up after that.
If we get a few lads back from the sick bay, and can play with a bit of heart like we did in the 2nd spell today, we could perform one of the bigger sporting turnarounds in a long while after shipping 70 last week...

@taniwharugby funny but even with some ragged performances, I still feel this team as the goods to make it through. Just need a good performance and some fully fit players. Prefer if didn’t play so much footy in our own 22 though.
Apart from known long term injuries - a fully fit side would probably be:
Matt Wright
Tua and Highland
Ranger
Gregory
Debreczini
Nock
Matich
Robinson & Pryor
Goodhue & Douglas
Tu’ungafasi, Moulds, RinikamaHohaia, Faiane, Kitto, Olsen, Straker, Atkins, Matiu, Jacobsen and McNamara coming in for any injuries.
Plus if Jack Goodhue was available you would find some space for him.

I think I would rather have Roberts-TeNana or probably even Cooper on the bench over Hohaia - would be good to have a bit of firepower to bring on. Also would be good if Ross Wright was fit again too (not sure if that's likely or not). Think Matiu has really stood up well over the second half of this comp especially with his strong carries but will likely go back to the bench when Matich is fit
-
@chiefy07 I yesterday showed McNamara is upto it too.
Given our loose forward line out I think he helped keep it mostly functional, was very busy around the park and still had enough in the tank to be part of that final try as the movement swept up the field.
Not sure we will get Douglas or Robinson back, both didn't look good last week when they came off, while the rest, I am hopeful were all but rested for niggles, given Olsen being ruled out then making the bench...and had yesterday been a must win a few more might have played.
Which brings me to poor Matthews, seriously why have you got him in the squad if you aren't going to use him.
While Jack hasn't played much, I think he is classed as a frontline player now so would be very surprised if he is released, but who knows thier thinking on releasing players.
-
@taniwharugby Douglas and Robinson would both be big like losses if they are not fit.
-
McNamara once again showed what a big engine he has to actually get down the feild in the 79th minute to support Cooper and then lay on the pass to Hyland..
I have heard a lot about his work ethic and from what I have heard Scott Gregory has a similar work ethic.
we have got some really good home grown kids to work with.
Rapt for Aorangi Stokes, not only a really good bugger, but always gives it 100%,did not know much about Lucas Albornoz (listed as 6’3 on ESPN rugby played 1 test for Canada )from Waipu the Dev games I saw,he most of the time started of the bench and always considered him 2 small for Mitre 10 level as a lock, but I though he put in an excellent shift coming in for Temo Mayanavanua so early in the piece.
On the day,I thought Moulds really stood up along with Nock ,great little cameo at the end from Gregory.
And after seeing Wiseguy Faiane,I just want to see more..! -

It's been a missed opportunity for Northland.
I said before the season started that it should have been a development year for Wiseguy. If they'd given him 20 mins off the bench in most games (with Debra going to fullback) they'd have good player on their books for 2019. Right now he is still just a raw kid
