Manawatu v Tasman

Geez, you guys took another Auckland player with John Akaua'ola-Laula. He's been playing for the Auckland B's this year. We're like your feeder team.:smiling_face_with_open_mouth_smiling_eyes:
Everybody is their feeder team - they've emulated and maybe perfected their big brother's template.

Ahem, look at your own province.
Damn, you're fully supporting your Crusaders brethren now I see.
We have our 5 or so imports ( Ta$man have 5 import blindsides alone) but at least we complain about them.
-
@nepia I'm not supporting anyone here; I just can't believe that you of all people are the pot talking about the kettle being black.
But seriously, I always find comments about Auckland players playing for other teams a bit strange; it's not like smaller provinces have poached these players. Auckland didn't sign them for their 'A' team, so the players want to try their luck elsewhere. If another union lacks depth at a certain position due to injury (or for other reasons), then they'll pick up those unsigned players. Win, win, for players and the province who needs them. Who cares whether they are from Auckland or somewhere else? The time that provinces were solely fielding players from their own province is long gone anyway.
-
@stargazer I find it interesting for a few reasons.
One its a chance to see who 'got away' from Auckland. It highlights the poor selection and recruitment from Auckland (e.g. how they let Makalio get away a couple of years ago).
Two - it highlights that whilst Auckland rugby/Blues rugby has been recently poor that they still produce good players (as they should do with their population/playing numbers).
Three - it highlights the changing nature of professional rugby - that being successful isnt about about producing players but recruiting/developing them. Something Crusaders/Canterbury/ Ta$man are awesome at. Something the Blues are abysmal at.

Huh? I've always complained about poaches in HB, I'd rather lose with none than have them dominate our team - you know that, we've discussed it many times in the Magpies sections.

We wouldn't have needed them if you fuckers hadn't stolen Mike Coman!

That dude just turned up and we couldn't get rid of him.
Did he play any matches for Ta$man? I seem to remember he turned up from Canterbury.

Margins are pretty thin in this competition. Remove a few of our best players and we're struggling to put away Manawatu.
Luckily those guys are sitting on the bench and will hopefully make a difference in the last 20 minutes.
I'll tell y'all who is a very good player though and that is Ethan Blackadder. Got the sort of utility value that could see him get that bench spot for the ABs a couple of years down the track.

TBH I have never watched him play but for some reason I conjure up thoughts of another Luke Whitelock and that comment backs that unfounded thought up

@crucial Tall Matt Todd!
Lineout was rubbish. Missed Parkinson in the first half, but when he came on we lost Makalio and Niuia threw like he'd been taking lessons from Nathan Harris.
Hope Makalio is nothing serious. One of quite a few we don't have great cover for.
Once Lomax came on our scrum was dominant, but we didn't really get the full benefit of that.
Still, points in the bank - onward and upward.
When Hemepo came on he looked like an All Black - a cut above the average.
