Fatbusting: Kirwan's log
-
Very droll.<br />
<br />
Getting a great all over workout from squash and rowing at the moment, good aches from the neck down basically <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Was surprised to read how much lack of sleep screws up your body. I've been averaging 6.5 to 7 hours a night. -
Buggers everything up doggie. You need rest to give your body recovery time, and let your brain get into a deep sleep. Without decent sleep you tend to eat more, think in a less useful fashion, and generally not be as good at things as you could. Having 7-8 hours a night is right for an active person, but a really good practice if you can is get in a power nap in the afternoons - 10-15 minutes in the post-lunch crash period does wonders from a personal point of view. The odd nanna nap on the weekends is also very good for you.

Kirwan, what's the score with sleep deprivation? For years I've been trying to get by on 5 - 51/2 hrs night.<br />
<br />
<br />
This is what I stumbled acorss on one website;<br />
<br />
Lack of sleep increases your hormone cortisol, which is a hormone that stores fat and burns muscle (in other words, it does the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish), and decreases your testosterone levels (which need to be high in order to keep your fat burning/muscle gaining processes going at full speed). While sleep requirements vary, seven to nine hours of sleep is generally a good rule of thumb
<br />
<br />
For the last three days I've increased my sleep by an hour and I've been seeing what Nick was talking about, particularly the concentration bit - which I have been struggling with being so tired from the new regime. -
Yeah, you have to sleep. I aim for 8 hours a night, mainly because my boss is an insomniac who weighs 130kg and I don't want to end up like that. <br />
<br />
As for the morning exercise thing, if you can be arse (which MvJ can more often than not at the moment) it is the best. -
Still going, rowing and squash mainly. Starting to see some results now, weight is constant, but definitely starting to trim up. <br />
<br />
Still a way to go but have got into a routine now and the diet has improved alot. During the week anyway <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
try different stroke rates. Get down to 24 per minute, while maintaining your speed. Then when you up your stroke rate, you will keep pulling hard, and your pace will drop.<br />
<br />
Experiment with slow stroke rates, and pulling harder etc. <br />
<br />
And form is important, all your power in your legs, so use them!!<br />
<br />
but just putting the metres in the best way - the more the better, and the better you will get!<br />
<br />
I've been 'playing' while rowing lately though, will row at whatever a rate, then for a minute, go hard out, fast as I can, then cruise along again for maybe a couple of minutes, then hard out again. Mix it up to keep the brain active while you row.<br />
<br />
Always try and beat little targets while you row etc. You're rower will have the pace boat thing (mine pre that), but set him a little faster than your besty times, so you have to at least beat the machine...! -
Cool, have got the rate down to 25 at the moment but the fitness gives out if I try to maintain too low a rate. Will keep on trucking.<br />
<br />
Noticed somethign this week with my diet. Usually when I have a stressful week I will reward myself with a treat. I had the worst week in months at work this week (thanks to Indian outsourced cock smokers) and the thought never crossed my mind.<br />
<br />- 1 baby step.
