All Canterbury teams are named Sunday after the club final
-
@chchfanatic Any interesting new faces in The Canterbury squad you think will be named.
-
I’d say it will be pretty stock standard. Maybe Brodie McAllister , Harrison Allen , Hamish Dalziel , Tom Christie , Hugh Renton , ngane punivai might push their way in. Would love to see Sam Gilbert in there after under 19s. He has been killing div 1 this year

Ray Nu'u is a guy I have very high hopes for, apparently he didnt make the squad because they don't want any more inexperienced midfielders.
So Dale McLeod has signed him for Southland.
A big loss, he's had an amazing season.

@chchfanatic You know this Winger apparently moved back from League Josh Aileone - University, Maddocks has him in the wider training group

Some news on the Ta$man squad - bolded are some items of interest, italics of particular interest....
A Ta$man Mako High-Performance rugby squad has been chosen to prepare for Mitre 10 Cup pre-season matches against Manawatu and Wellington.

The HP squad is:

Backs - Ben Finau (Moutere), Jack Grooby (Waimea Old Boys), Nemia Kenatale (East Coast), Tim O'Malley (Waitohi), William Havili (Nelson), Leicester Faingaanuku (Nelson), James Hawkey (Marist), Nick Foxley (Nelson), Levi Aumua (Renwick), Tima Faingaanuku (Nelson), Tomas Aoake (Stoke), Jamie Spowart (Marist), Fetuli Paea (Waitohi).
Unavailable due to injury were Rupena Parkinson and Anty Burnett.
The 2018 Ta$man Mako Mitre 10 Cup squad will be officially announced on August 10.
Jamie Spowart looked handy in the JWC.
Ta$man creating a tradition of producing good and verstalie fullbacks cum wingers or midfielders.
Malneek
Havili
T Marshall
Lowe
SpowartOnly Malneek of those wasn't particulary versatile.

@rapido Robbie played a fair bit at first five - including occasionally for the Mako. James Marshall similarly - though more fullback once he left Ta$man.
Will Jordan looks like he could play wing pretty comfortably - if he ever gets back to playing.

A good majority of last years' Canterbury squad are still available. I don't follow club rugby overly closely these days so I'm not sure who the next cabs off the rank are at hooker if we're missing all of Taylor, Funnell and Vella, plus in the loosies with Todd, Brown and Sanders all unavailable. Is Bird off now? Good depth available at prop and throughout the backs though, wiht the possible exclusion of midfield. A possible XV:
15 Bridge
14 Keresoma
11 Makene
13 Ennor
12 Burleigh
10 Mo'unga
9 Drummond8 Whitelock
7 Harmon
6 Prinsep
5 Dalziel
4 Dunshea
3 Tokolahi
2 ???
1 DLBRes
16 ???
17 Jager
18 Hodgman
19 Tucker
20 ???
21 Enari / Stratton
22 Cameron
23 McKay / Maitland -
@chchfanatic Not in the mix ? wasn't included in the wider training group or a chance we could do with another decent outside back
