So I got 4 of the match up's and 13/16.

Can still get all the QF inalists bar the obvious but to do so Messi and Ronaldo will have to carry their teams

some tasty looking matches with the cautionary note that teams sphincters collectively tighten come the knock out rounds and everything gets tight ......

Yup, finally the pointy end of the tournament. Might start watching a few of the games overnight now instead of just highlights. Bring it on! And comon ENGLAND!

No Engerlund? Nice work appeasing the sporting gods mate 😉

The Portugal Uruguay game will be close I expect, France have quality but I suspect they are too young too soft and could be receptive to the Argies coming alive finally. England will make tough work of Colombia, I know who I want to win but I wouldn't wager any sort of money on them

So unless Spain make it through (or England since they won in 1966) there will be a new finalist in the WC. The left side of the bracket is where the WC is though. I'm picking France but man, that's the toughest draw I've seen in a long time for a tournament.

lots of people picking France, but they aren't actually all that good. They are an 11-man gallic shrug. They have a vanilla coach, and a bunch of guys who barely seem to want to be there (fuck that is so French). I could easily see them half-assing their way out before the final.

I liked Belgium this morning. Even with a lot of the 2nd stringers out there they were well organised, and looked the better side. Their top team is loaded with talent, and they have a soft draw (yes, Brazil is soft, i think they are a bit shit). Croatia look tasty up the other side as well.

But, this is football, and VAR is adding another level of "how the fuck?" to this, so it could be anyone.

The WC starts again now. Croatia and Belgium have been the best-performed teams so far. I wouldn't mind that as a final and a first-time winner.

Colombia will be tough so typical English press.

Tougher match than v the 2 euro neutralists awaiting the winner.

@rocky-rockbottom because they are already looking at the QF opponent. Trouble is, they have to win the next game first

I don't want Brazil to win if they keep up this anti-beautiful diving charade. FIFA are full of shit. Want to stop diving and simulation? Make it a YC offence, instruct the refs to vigorously police it and see how quick these punks clean themselves up

Yeah, Neymar is always looking for a foul and the Latin teams have mastered the art of flopping while holding their heads when any contact is usually on the body, if at all. A bunch of prima donnas!

The continual failure by teams outside of Europe and South America frustrates me.

I'm yearning for an underdog to get behind in the final stages, but really none of the teams fills me with any enthusiasm.

The Group stages only finished this morning, and this is already my highlight of the Cup. I couldn't give a shit about the rest, that, right there, is the pinnacle.
