The man is back! The Crusaders have signed Whetu Douglas for 2019 and 2020! I'd say that is a step up from Pete Samu, going by what we've been able to see from him last year.

Ongoing concussion symptoms to our equal most important AB is not cool. We are very fucking far from developing a test class replacement for him.

@Nepia if Chicago taught us anything, it's that we need Whitelock and BBBR on the field against the big boys. Aaron can't do much if our forwards are getting bitch slapped all over the park.

If Chicago taught us anything it's don't play Kaino at lock ... having one of BBBR or Whitelock at any time supported by another lock is good enough for me.

Agree with you that we don't want to lose him to long term concussion though.

The bolded part is the problem. Do we think Scott Barrett is the other starting lock? He's hardly shone at Super level let alone test level. Then who else is there? Romero and Pat T are impact subs only. The drop-off in class from our starting locks to the next best is the worlds tallest cliff.

We have two though, and we only have one 9, and as good as TJP can be, he's no A Smith - if we have to lose one I know which one I prefer.

@no-quarter You obviously haven't watched the last few Crusaders games. Scott Barrett has really stepped up the last few rounds of SR. I'm hoping for Lousi and Strange to progress further, but that will probably come too late for the RWC.

Agree to disagree, TJP is a fine player these days and will do a job at halfback. We have no backup to Whitelock/BBBR at all right now so that is the most concerning area for mine.

As could have been expected, Liam Squire has been cited for his hit on TJ Perenara.

He has been cited under Law 9.12 Striking with the shoulder, which has a mid-range entry point of 6 weeks. So if they find him guilty, and if he has been a good boy and apologised, shown early remorse blah blah and isn't a repeat offender, then he'll get 3 weeks after reduction for mitigating factors. Bye French Series for Squire.

Just dumb, we're the most penalised (carded) Tier one nation and our players still aren't learning - so dumb. If we don;t come on by a long way, we're going to lose the RWC on this stupidity

From a travel perspective, this would be an ideal draw for the Quarter Finals:

@stargazer I was looking the other night at the standings and it seems unlikely to me that the composition of the top eight will change from here.

Sharks, Bulls and (especially) Brumbies have difficult programmes to finish and the other teams are effectively gone (Stormers still a mathematical chance).

Agree that the makeup of teams wont change but with a number of NZ derbies to come it is possible that the Jaguares can move up the ranks and screw things up a bit. Rebs and Tahs could swap too.
