@kiwimurph Wouldn't be suprised if they fucked off somewhere else soon.

How bad was Bryn Gatland tonight? He'd have to be one of the worst 10s in the comp.

Any win at Eden Park is a good win for an Otago/Highlanders supporter!

it is distressing (probably 🙂 ) if you are a Blues supporter to watch them, take out injuries and they just do not have an identity in their play. The highlanders was as clear as day as are other NZ teams. Watching the game i swear the attack plan was to give the ball to Reiko and Akira as much as possible and hope they score.
Again though they just dont have the game managers of other NZ teams, even with top players there, although it would have been closer.
Bryn-TJ-Leger just aint a Super rugby team!!! TJ and leger just are back-ups at best and with perofeta you had 4 10s out there with no go forward or defensive muscle. Thompson and Naholo had runs where they looked like little boys playing men.
On D there plan is confusing as well, are they rushing etc?????? Now for me that is the coaches.

Default your remaining NZ derbies Blues 😉

@kiwimurph we had team stacked with All Blacks and big names when Pat Lam coached them and we stumbled into the playoffs and got cleaned up the Reds..you arguably say even our better selected sides have been a massive disappointment.

The Pat Lam side wasn’t that bad. If he had the resources Tana has it would be interesting to think about what might have been.

We got better each year under Lam except the last year where we had a crazy injury toll and lost our two most influential players in Toeava and Kaino for the season in round 2 against the Chiefs.

If you want to know if this is the lowest ever point for the Blues then @Canerbry just thinking about maybe having a tiny bit of sympathy for Aucklanders should tell you all you need to know.

Wow, that was bad, really bad. Blues looked like an Aussie side out there.....

The Landers played with speed and were able to get through and around Blues defenders.

Impressed with Hammington again. Good awareness and a swift pass to boot.

Blues look laboured and disorganised in attack.

It looked like there were extra highlanders on the park, the way they could find space and then muscle up on D.

Before I read the rest of the thread which I imagine is a extended call for Tana to resign I worked something out during the game. Not an excuse for Tana but:

    1. Manu
    2. Apisai
    3. Tu'ungafasi
    4. Cowley-Tuioti
    5. Scrafton
    6. Kaino
    7. Gibson
    8. ?
    9. Pulu
    10. Black
    11. Nanae
    12. Moala
    13. SBW
    14. Duffie
    15. Collins

How many of them would be in the first team? 6 of the backline and 5 of the forwards?

    Just saying

Looked a bit like us when Toddy would try to cram Danny, Slade and Tom Taylor into the backline?

Tana needs to get them moving the ball from side to side - probing for the gap that never comes! 🙂

@rocky-rockbottom totally agree, even the stats are quite hard to believe,

                              Highlanders. Blues
           Tackles made 158. 61
            Missed Tackles. 17. 10
           Offloads in Tackle. 8. 16
       Turn overs conceded. 19. 17
       Clean Breaks. 1. 2
       Penalties Conceeded. 9. 7

Only stat that counts is the score line I guess, they should add another couple of other stats when they put these together

    Good decisions
    Bad decisions

Well, I left early. It was shit. Our halfback seemed to think that slow, looping passes were a good idea, and it didn't get better.

Yep. Ruru was just as much at fault as Gatland for the first try. The pass was taken above his head.

As others have said, a lot of that backline is Development level only.

@booboo just an update on your team - Manu started (though Hodgman is injured you could put him in there), Apisai is fit but not able to make the 23 cos he is awful and Duffie was on the bench.

As for some players who played well I thought Tamaioeta actually went well in his first start at tighthead, Papalii shows a lot of promise and Duffie played his best game of the year off the bench.

And what was the excuse when more of those players were fit earlier in the season? Or last year?

The fact is that injuries happen, and you have to rely on your squad (which Tana picked). Look at what the injuries the Chiefs had, and that all still look like a coached team and their new players look like they understand the team pattern and contribute to the result.

I defy you to describe the Blues pattern/gameplan on attack or defence. We have disintegrated into a team of individuals.

Just look at things like the non-selection of Ben Lam. Or plays his counties favourites over Akira last year.

The problems start at the board, obviously as they keep picking celebrities for coaches, but Tana is clearly out of his depth and should quit. Or be sacked.

@kirwan TBF, Lam really has only come of age this season, was all kinds of average when with the Blues (would have slotted in nicely with this bunch...) and even last year with the canes wasnt near his 2018 form.

LIke all these 'ones that got away' there is no garantees they would have developed into the much better players they did if they stayed with the Blues..plus, how many players have the Blues let go, that havent flourished...
