Man that road race outcome was disappointing.

I thought we should have sent someone across to the leading threesome on the tail of Luke Rowe and we would have had two riders in a five man leading group - one of whom was the Englishman who'd been out there all day, plus Meyer and Rowe who'd both done plenty of work. And about 3km to ride.

Instead we dragged the Aussie sprinter back into the race and I'm not sure who was supposed to win for NZ - I can only assume Archibold, who blew things completely with an early move and clearly had nothing in his legs when push came to shove.

I think most of us would be thrilled with bronze, TBH.

@chris-b Yep. I don't know what the hell Archbold was thinking trying to attack on the hill. Complete waste of legs when he was probably our best sprinter. Whereas the Aussies played it perfectly. Cam Meyer did all the work, then his teammate whooshed through for gold at exactly the right time.

So bloody frustrating. We were rightly getting bagged by the commentators, because having half the front pack and ending up with 5 riders between 5th and 13th is a rather embarrassing fail.

Silver Ferns down by 11 at halftime. Man, if I was a Ferns defender, I would be seriously pissed at the midcourt and shooters. Get a great turnover, only to have it go nowhere. The shooters and centre/WA need to work harder to get the ball in closer to the goal before they take a shot. They just aren't accurate enough from out further, whereas Aussie will nail from anywhere.

75% vs 94% shooting says it all really

Has been the case in most of the games. Getting the same number of shots off, we are just not putting them away. Bailey Mes is unfortunately the weakness.

The gulf in class between Folau as a shooter and Mes is the fucking Grand Canyon. Mes is not international quality. Folau was also having to leave the circle a lot to assist the lacklustre midcourt. Fuck that's hard to watch when in the past we've had super strong shooters and midcourt.

This is going to be humiliating, keeping it under 30 goals will take a miracle

    Silver Ferns lose by 21.

In happier news, King and Coll just won the bronze medal match in the squash mixed doubles. Easily beat the English pair.

Australia beat Jamaica by 21 goals as well. Should be a good match.

We currently have 41 medals. Our best ever tally is 45. At least a silver coming up in the men's hockey, also the women's squash pair. Also strong chances in men's and women's rugby, men's basketball. Technical chance in netball.

Damn. Australia scores in the hockey final.
1 - 0 Australia in the 2nd quarter. Just over 9 minutes until half time.

How come we haven't got anyone who can make the start line in either marathon?

Couldn't they let Liza Hunter-Galvan out of the pen for a couple of days? 🙂

I think Zane or Jake would be massive chances for gold here if they were fit enough.

@hydro11 Zane has stepped up to marathon distance but is injured, I think?

You'd think we'd have some other capable marathon runners though!

Meanwhile the Silver Ferns are crumbling in their bronze match. At threequarter time they've had more shots than the Jamaicans but are trailing by half a dozen points.
