Went yourself with a three man overlap outside you? Ah the joys of touch  <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />

That dastardedly sprint training must indeed be paying off Red Bull. You have certainly been getting into it. :happy:<br />

<br />
😁 ha...nah MvJ, it was more just situations where I had to beat the cover and I cut inside instead of employing the 'in-and-away' manouvre that's served me well in the past. Also a scenario where our dummy half took off up the middle and as I accelerated to assist him, an opposition player grabbed the back of my shirt and held me back....the decision I should have made was to clout the fucker in the head. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />

Decided last night that my slightly tender knee needed a rest, so just did a mammoth session of pushups, crunches, and chin ups insyead of my usual sprints. Did 5 sets of 20 pushups, 5 sets of 20 crunches, and 2 sets of 5 chinups (very weak in this area). There was 15 seconds break between each set. My upper body is quite sore this morning.<br />
<br />
Tennis tonight, so I'll really try not to have any tantrums, because I always play better if I don't think about the score, and just focus on middling the ball.<br />

Hour and a half of tennis last night. Good to have the run. My second serve was fucking appalling, and my stats probably pointed to about 50% 2nd serves in. The artificial grass with a coat of sand is possibly the most abrasive surface known to man, and is very effective at removing skin from knees, as I again painfully found out.

went for another sprint session last night, same jog down to the park, but this time 4 sets of my 22-50-22-100 routine with 20 pushups and 20 crunches in between each set, meaning that I'm slowly building up.<br />
<br />
And in a fucking fantastic piece of news: jumped on the scales this morning for the first time in a couple of weeks, and have gone down to 95.5 kg (edit: when I began my regime, I was hovering at about 100-101kg). I'm bloody happy with that loss. So clearly my routine of eating bugger-all fat and sugar, and busting a gut on the sprints etc is doing some good. I haven't been this trim since I endured a bungled appendix removal procedure 5 years ago and was refused all foodstuffs for 10 days.  <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

is this something you Sydneysiders get into around Mardi Gra time Nick? 😁<br />

I've never heard of a 'colon blow', and I don't really like the sound of it to be honest.

It isn't much fun - basically its a prep formula they give you before a colonoscopy i.e. when they're checking your colon for cancerous growths. NTA has had one of these and the camera work happens under anaesthetic. Its the ground work that is the killer - don't eat the day before, and then before you go to sleep mix up this powder into 3 litres of water and drink it all within an hour. Then spend the next 3 hours on the toilet regretting every single mL you ingested 😕<br />
<br />
I had to do this on the day before, and the procedure wasn't due until 3PM the next day so I basically didn't eat for 48 hours! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Jaysus mate! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> That sounds truly horrific. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Fortunately, I didn't have to go through that with my appendix operation, though when they were diagnosing the source of my abdominal pain, I had the misfortune and immense discomfort of getting probing fingers up the.....well, enough said there.<br />
<br />
Anyway, the point is, I'm very happy, nay....elated, to be under 96 kgs.  :happy:

Thanks Captain Miller. Your contribution to my mental state cannot be underestimated.<br />
<br />
I run with a little imaginary MvJ on my left shoulder screaming obscene motivational messages, and a little imaginary NtA on my right shoulder, but he spends most of my training time talking about the fact that he's missing all that action at home with Mrs TA. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />

I might have to go it alone if it continues.

NTA forgot to add: well done Red Bull. If I could lose another 5kg I'd be stoked. Still, at one stage I was hitting the 130kg mark so being 116kg at the moment feels good <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'll get back out there tonight, if I can thread the 'exercise needle' through the labyrinth that is the Commonwealth Games Rugby 7s schedule. :nta

<br />
very happy that I overcame the demons on Friday night and went for another run, when i could have easily capitulated into a fat booze-fuelled monster.<br />
<br />
It was not my usual sprint session...more of a light jog down to the footy park, 3 sets of 20 pushups and crunches, then a speedy jog home, making sure I sprinted up every hill between the park and home (and let me tell you, there are a couple of killer hills). <br />
<br />
I was greeted at the footy park with thousands of little kids participating in their obligatory Friday night training runs, and if this level of interest is the norm at every rugby club in Aus, then Australian rugby is pretty good shape. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
On a completely unrelated issue, on Friday night I spotted my old club mate Nathan Grey having a run along the street on which I work, and shit he looking massive. I had not seen him in person since we both played at Wests in Brisbane in 98. He has bulked up massively since then obviously. No Nick, I wasn't stalking him. 😁<br />
<br />
Footy for me tonight, and I am very much looking forward to mocking the defenders with a few scything runs. 👅

<br />
footy last night, and due to the fact that approximately 30 lads turned up, the gaps in the defence were few and far between. Despite this, i got heavily involved, had a really good run around and was rewarded with a triple-bunger of tries. the game went for an hour and fifteen minutes, which is about normal.<br />
<br />
I do have a little bit of soreness in my knee this morning, I can't remember doing anything to it in terms of knocks or spills, but I'm hoping that it's just stiffness, and not something more sinister like ligament or cartilage problems. :nta<br />
<br />
I might just have a night off tonight to give the knee a rest nonetheless.

game of tennis last night that went for 1 and a half hours. Had some more soreness in my left knee, particularly when I bend my leg at the knee to it's maximum. Maybe I should see a physio? :nta <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> preferably a hot female one with nice cans

i'd love to do that Nick, but I suspect it's a little more serious than that. The knee was at it's worst after my game of footy on Monday night which involved lots of acceleration and changes of direction. I'll see how it shapes up with a day or 2 off. :nta

righto then, had a few days of no sprint fitness sessions, to see how the knee shaped up and I'm pleased to report that it feels good. I did, however, decide to walk to work from home on Saturday to pick up my car after a boozie Friday night, and this took an hour and 7 minutes. <br />
<br />
Sunday also saw me down at Ballymore with my brother and his kids kicking the footy and playing a little game of tackle. During this time, had a few good sprints which didn't trouble my knee at all. <br />
<br />
As result, I've given myself a medical clearance to have a game of footy tonight.  <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Will report tomorrow how it goes.

Knee was fine during the footy game, and managed to propel me to a mutiple-try performance in 1 hr of play. Pretty happy with that. However, it was this morning when I woke up and got out of bed that the slight twinges of pain in the knee returned to haunt me. I feel it may signal the end of my sprint training schedule, and time to devise a fitness regime that's less demanding the crucial kee joint(s). :nta <br />
<br />
Will have to have a think about this one. Any training suggestions would be welcome, but they can't involve a gym, a bike, or a pool. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Go for a swim in the river <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
Well given you get it during sprints it sounds like its not related to torsional pressure ie twisting or sideways moving within the joint. Sprints is generally up-and-down pressure or impact pressure on the joint. This therefore rules out jogging or sprinting if it keeps giving you grief. At that point, your options are: pool <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Nick, I wanted to avoid swimming because I hate swimming and I swim like Eric the Eel from the Sydney Olympics  :shifty:<br />
<br />
Being a tight fluffybunny, I don't want to fork out huge wads of cash for a bike, and even if I had a bike, I would have to cycle in traffic which is also not my cuppa tea. Maybe an exercycle would be something? Also, don't live near a gym, and don't really want to fork out money for memberships and shit either.<br />
<br />
So I wanted to devise a plan I can do by myself without the above components. Yes, I know it appears that I'm coming up with reasons why not to exercise, but seriously I want to continue now that i do have a reasonable level of fitness and I've dropped 5-6 kgs.<br />
<br />
Are there are circuit-type training methods that don't involve any advanced equipment?
