Terrific effort TR, I take about 1:10 to reach 30 but yeah, you sure hit the wall and they slow down around then. My jumps are almost non existent at the end....I think for those of us dumb enough to think about 100 of the the fuckers the aim would be to do the 50 in about 3 minutes purely so you don't fuck yourself up for the later reps ( but then I guess that's the difference between a sprint and a longer distance !?!?! )
In the Crossfit Open last year the first workout was 7mins burpees, they made you measure a target 6 inches higher that your arm pointed up, which you had to reach with two hands with every jump. Makes an incredible difference to how tired you get.

Another quirk they make you do that I've been forced into recently is clapping behind your head. Forces you to open your hips on the jump, so you can't cheat by leaning forward.

A couple of ways to make them harder so you don't have to do so many!

We did bar facing burpees in last nights WOD. Normal burpee facing a barbel, which you have to jump over (off both feet at the same time), then spin around and do another burpee, repeat. Same concept, makes you work harder on the jump.

I do that on my jump-squats, reckon it does make a big difference! (at the bottom of the squat I make sure my hands touch my heels)

I sort of do the last bit with my jump squats, in that I jump forward on one, and back on the next, but adding the bar would make it tougher again!

Yep, doesn't take much to make things harder. Looking around the gym it's pretty amazing how many different ways people attack burpees as well.

Just to confirm the technique. When you hit the deck does your chest have to completely touch the ground or can you hit the deck with your arms loaded to push you up?

the challenge as set down by MN5 does not include the press-up component.

When I do it with the push up I do a full push up...

I said to the boys they just had to get their feet off the ground. SO the smart ones were doing that, jumping just an inch or two. A few not so sharp ones were leaping for the moon, fuck it looked funny.

and chest had to touch the ground. Boys were Slamming, loved it. Might give them a go tonight!

Feeling the legs a bit after last nights gym so might save them for Tuesday night, although I think I might do them on the bottom field away from the team haha

You asking me? The Crossfit standard is chest and hips hit the ground, then feet off the ground for the jump and clap behind your head. It keeps bloody changing though, but they are consistent about the chest and hips hitting the ground.

If you think Im even gonna bother trying that again, you can go frack yourself <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> moreover it took me around 5 more mins to do the other 50 I had planned!!

*though I was going great guns when I hit 30 in about 58 sec!!
I:55 this morning, FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. If I could keep up the pace I set initially I think a good 1:40 would be on the cards but those mere 15 seconds seem a LOOOOONG way off.a After 30 you can't help but slow down.....

Doing this three times a week and the times are generally round 1-55 2 minutes. Think they're definitely helping all in all which is cool.Great walking alongside someone up a hill and you can talk normally and they can't.........

Super kid at the gym did 30 strict burpees (but without the push up part) in one minute. Can't see getting many more in and still opening the hips on the up. I'll try and get him to do 50 tonight, whats the record?

TR cracked under a minute I think, I haven't quite managed that, best around 1:05. Is super kid quite short limbed ? I reckon that'd help......judging by that you'd assume he'd crack 2 minutes admittedly with fuck all in it !

In my little garage circuit this morning i cracked out 21 in my first minute, they were the full ones with a press up, over the course of the circuit they got progressively slower. By the 5th set i could only get out 15, just. And i was fuuuucked

He did 50 in 1.56 and looked pretty tired, last ten looked painful. He did 29 in the first minute.

I don't think I'd get under 2.20 based on that, and even that might be optimistic.

He's 1.78m by the way. His brother is a bit shorter and faster on burpees, so he's next on my list.

Evil little workout.

Doubt mine would be seen as strict....I tried to do them properly, but as you push to do them quick, you probably do them a bit easier...?
