The 49ers sign RB Jerick McKinnon to a big four-year $37 million deal. Last night when looking through the free agent RBs, I began hoping the 49ers would take McKinnon (dual-threat RB with low mileage and proved himself well in Minnesota which favours big bruising RBs). But $37 million is a lot of money, even though the 49ers have the cap space.
Former 49ers RB Carlos Hyde has chosen to end his career in Cleveland.

Ravens fix their massive WR problems (i.e they had none) by signing Michael Crabtree and John Brown. The twist here is the Ravens panicked when they missed out on Allen Robinson and Sammy Watkins in the first hours of free agency and signed former Washington WR Ryan Grant to a $29 million deal (along with Brown but Brown is a good WR2).
Then Crabtree is released by the Raiders, who signed Jordy Nelson, and what do you know, the Ravens say that Grant has failed his physical (which Grant disputes) and go and sign Crabtree. -
Jets and Colts swap first rounders, in return for 2 2018 2nd rounders and a 2019 2nd.
A high price, but with less long term implications than than I was expecting. I'm impressed that they didn't have to part with a future first, possibly benefiting from being in quick (a bird in the hand and all that).
Bills now look like they'll miss out on the top 3 qbs, depending on what the Giants do. Personally I think the Giants will look to take a QB now, since they're in a great position and Eli can still be a bridge. But the Bills have the collateral for a move up. Having basically gutted their roster for that collateral, I hope they like all of the 'big four' QBs.

@cyclops It also forces the Browns to commit to drafting a QB with their first pick or else they could end up with their third QB choice when the fourth pick rolls around. I think the Giants will begin putting out rumours they are interested in drafting a QB and see if the Bills bite. Otherwise they will be happy with RB Saquon Barkley.

Still can't believe the Browns didn't take Wentz or Goff when they had the chance in the draft.
Are these QBs any better than Wentz and Goff when entering the draft? It's the Browns....
I rate Darnold, Rosen and Allen. Mayfield is getting a lot of love because he played at a famous football college so I don't know if that means he's any good in the NFL. Lamar Jackson could be a sneaky steal in the backend of the first round but mobile QBs tend to be figured out early on in their careers if they don't change their style.

Mayfield also had the best college career of the big four (including a Heisman trophy this year, for all the relevance that has) but played in a very QB friendly scheme so questions around whether he can transfer that into the NFL, and also questions about mindset/off field conduct (there's been a couple of comparisons to Johnny Manziel). He's also short.
Lots of talk about Lamar Jackson being converted to a WR, although he doesn't want to so I could see him having a similar career path to Terelle Pryor.

Mayfield has a much better arm, much better accuracy and his playing style is way more translatable to the NFL than Manziel - his off the field stuff isn't as bad either - so he should be a decent starter for whoever drafts him.

Are these QBs any better than Wentz and Goff when entering the draft?Wentz and Goff would've been wasted at the Browns. Both of those guys had the luxury of being paired up with great OCs and QB coaches, as well as having good weapons(mainly in year 2), which the Browns don't have. They've also had offenses that have been tailored to their strengths, which surprisingly is not the most common thing in the NFL and wouldn't of been guaranteed at the Browns.

I like Darnold and Rosen as my top 2, but I think Allen is a massive risk for a team to draft in the 1st round. He has serious accuracy problems and only had half field reads in college, but he's big and has a cannon of an arm, so someone will bite.
His arm is ridiculously strong though. He was clocked throwing 66mph in the senior bowl, which is insane. I've never seen that high a number before in regards to arm strength in the NFL. Still has nothing on Uncle Rico though.

Sam Darnold had a great outing at his pro day overnight - despite it raining throughout. He didn't throw at the Combine so all eyes were on him and he delivered.
He would have to be the favourite to be drafted #1 overall. With Cleveland though you never know.

Jags have released WR Allen Hurns. Another major free agent on the market who should sign with the 49ers
Doesn't seem like the 49ers are interested.

The Browns owner was talking with Darnold's family while he worked out - seems to be a lock to be the number 1 pick. If he isn't the Giants will probably take him but right now it looks like they will be drafting DE Chubb with their pick after trading one-handed Jason Pierre-Paul.

Terrelle Pryor signing with the Jets means that they now have the top QB, RB and WR... from the 2016 1-15 Brown's. Even more remarkable, none of those signings look that bad! (although not great either, and depends on the money for Pryor).
Giants shipping out JPP is an interesting one. Drafting Chubb is one possibility. Equally they could be switching to rebuild and stockpiling draft picks with the opportunity to draft a top 2 qb. Feels like everyone in the league is falling in love with qb class. Will this be 1983 or 1998?
