Blues v Chiefs

@crucial A good coach makes a huge difference. There are many examples of coaches quickly turning around teams. Umaga is in his third year of his own setup, with high end facilities and his choice of supporting coaches.
Coventry looks to be a more capable coach. They should nab him while they can. He's brought structure and smart play to Harbour - a team that didn't have much going for it. He was excellent with the Chiefs.

I enjoyed that game, lot of running rugby, some big hits, lots of errors, but that's to be expected with these two teams and the pace of the game. Always fun to read a thread when you haven't been contributing to it when all angry and emotional during the game.
Alaimalo is awesome, I'd almost be happy for the ABs to ditch the two fullbacks to play him and Rieko together.

Cane was huge (again) with the inexperience in the pack at the end. The much-maligned Allardice played well too.
Has Allardice been much-maligned? He's always been a good performer in the Magpies and I can't remember Chiefs fans maligning him.

hmmm i don't agree with that.. our forward play was average under him - i wasn't sad to see him go

understand how difficult it is to break losing streaks
It's a TWO YEAR losing streak that may well go into a third.
How many excuses can you make for a professional coach with a full coaching team at his disposal?
So what's your solution? Endlessly yelling 'sack the coach'? Is that going to find you some leaders? A quality 10?
I admit that T has overall coaching responsibility but he doesn't coach the set piece weaknesses.
All I'm saying is that replacing the coach is not going to fix things. You've been trying that over and over and getting the same results.
T must be massively frustrated as the one thing he can't coach is players losing those crucial moments that change games. I bet Apisai throws straight all practice but couldnt do it when he needed to.
Final result was a loss but hardly an embarrassing walkover. The Blues problems go way deeper than the coach. So basically Tana gets a free pass?
He decided to select Apasai.
He decided to select Nock over Ruru.
He decided to select Moala at 13.
He is in year 3.

@williethewaiter When you won two titles?

They were better drilled than under Barnes I reckon.

Yeah, but it's still clutching at straws.
Nanai must start, that will make us win. - yeah, that worked
Pulu shouldn't be captain despite us having no other leaders and the suggested replacement being completely unseen at this level.
Plenty in the past that TJF should get more chances. Did he even play? You currently have a one man back row and that is always going to make it difficult.

LOL, you're comparing fans on a message board to the third season coach.
He selected Pulu as captain, and he should know his error rate better than anyone.

Another who looks like he's got AB written all over him. Apparently, he plays 15 too, so could cover that FB/wing spot.

As he never received the ball it would be hard to tell. But since the game plan was one off runners in midfield who don't pass, he was never going to get the ball. That's on the coach.

His error rate was way less than many others out there tonight.
Your answer is sack the coac, just as your answers are to start Nanai, remove the leadership from the only leader in the team, put a rookie halfback in to pair with your rookie 10 and developing 8 etc. that's why I am questioning whether your answers are correct.

I sometimes wonder how much sport some guys here have actually played or coached and understand how difficult it is to break losing streaks and how much experience in winning leadership counts when things aren't going your way.
It is easier to find ways to win when you know where to look for them.Watch that early spell in the second half and watch Messam. He stepped up big in both play and leadership for a burst and made a big difference.
Pulu is captain because he has the respect of the players but he is still to establish onfield mana. He has no one backing him up though.
It's funny to watch you make excuses for Umaga and Kirwan yet didn't you basically stop supporting the Hurricanes because of Hammett? Hammett actually got close to making the playoffs one year and he was a very average coach. It's just hard to see you ever reaching the point where you say "Umaga is doing a bad job". I don't recall exactly but I don't think you ever got there with Kirwan.
Tana is in his third season and he still has not been able to produce a team which can get over the line in a tight NZ derby. NZ derbies are half of his team's games. I'm not Tana out but he's running out of time. If he was sacked he would only have himself to blame. Huge talent pool, some of the best young New Zealand rugby players and looking like three years without playoffs. Plenty of coaches are sacked for less.
-
@crucial I'm not the one defending a coach who hasn't won against an NZ team since the first round of 2016.
I've provided a better coaching option. There are others that may be available too. I'm not going to make endless excuses for a coach who hasn't settled on a team until halfway through the last two seasons, selects an erratic halfback as Captain - ensuring that there will be no competition or options for our biggest weakness, and just can't produce the wins.
He has to take responsibility for the poor results, not guys who would like to see Nanai get more game time. Another question there is why isn't his development further along?

What???!!!
Hammer recognized that sometimes you've got to deconstruct the machine, to build something better. Canes woulda had two titles if they'd hung on to him.
p.s. Start passing around the hat to hire (the Kings of) Leon. Needs a very big cheque to tempt him away from his homeland, but he's worth it.
