They are overcharging big time. Relying on people like me to just let it "roll over" to next month.
I just canceled the rugby channel. All of the content is available elsewhere.
Sky are a pack of shits and make it as hard as possible to cancel- they will let you sign up to spend more cash online- try and cancel something, no fucking way. You have to call them, wait, and argue to get rid of a product that you don't want. I am doing away with a few companies that I dislike at the moment - it is quite satisfying. AMP are next.
-
holy crap, does this mean Sky has actually listened to the people for a change??

@no-quarter And when are we going to get high frame rates for sports?
Would much rather have 720p50 or 60 rather than 1080p25.

I assume that HD will still require purchasing an upgraded subscription.
Was going to say, continuing to charge people for just HD content is an absolute scam. Who the fuck would want to watch TV without HD these days?
It's the same in Oz.
I've had the awful experience of a couple of recorded Shield Snorters games being in SD even though they were broadcast in HD. How on earth did we watch sport pre-HD days? No wonder I used to go to so many live games in the 90s.

@Nepia I have no idea how I watched so much cricket in SD, you can hardly see the bloody ball!

I have no idea why anyone would watch so much cricket.

Just kidding, I actually watched most of Sunday's game and enjoyed it (first match I've watched since the CWC). -
watching in SD is the same as some of the dodgy streams online!
Presently I get free HD as we have multi room, but when I get around to finding a decent Freeview with HD I'll ditch it (by decent I mean pricewise decent) plus I don't have sports, only get it for MItre 10 Cup.

It can be worse too.
With Foxtel, I just told them I wanted HD for free or I'd cancel my subscription.

Sky TV have missed an opportunity - again.
Their big carrot is providing (legally) live coverage of most of the main sports we Kiwis like, so they still have a monopoly. All those complaining that sport should be free-to-air need to get real as we don't have the population for TVNZ, TV3 to purchase the broadcasting rights from SANZAAR etc.
But we, as customers, should be able to choose what other channels we'd like to subscribe to instead of all these shit channels that they currently offer in artificial bundled packages.
As for HD, should we pay extra for it? Of course not, but Netflix does the same thing.
-
@Bovidae Netflix offer HD as their standard, with extra costs for 4K and 8K. Agree it is the same annoying concept, but the fact that Sky's standard offer is still SD again highlights just how completely behind and out of touch they are.

Are you sure about that - I just signed up here in Oz and the basic package is not HD. Their Standard package is HD but that's not their entry level package.
Edit: Maybe the Oz package is different due to the crap internet over here?

Neon is SD as well isn’t it?

Shit you're right, SD is the standard, though it's dirt cheap. But I stand corrected.

Basic is still SD, standard and premium are HD.

Although mis-leading headline.
