Another spot up for grabs with Crockett's retirement:

Exclusive: An open letter from Wyatt Crockett

Exclusive: An open letter from Wyatt Crockett

After 71 tests and 1 match for the All Blacks, Wyatt Crockett has called time on his international career. Here, in a RugbyPass Exclusive, he tells us why he is stepping down from the All Blacks. He has other news too.

The couple of reports I’ve read don’t mention if the international retirement is with immediate effect, or after this season.

    Anyone got any more info?

This quote suggests to me that the international retirement is immediate, but it's not 100% clear:

Early in the New Year I made a call to All Blacks coach Steve Hansen and informed him of my decision to make myself unavailable for national selection.

Good move by Wyatt. Leaving on his terms. He showed great courage to come back from "Rome-gate", thanks Stuart Dickinson. I think he might have been pushed if he hadn't jumped, but he has given great service to province and country.

@jaycee liked coz it was a cool letter.

    Onya Wyatt

    Agree cool letter.

First observation: he debuted in 2009!? That guy has really hung in there.

Second observation, his sons are named Sonny Crockett and Emmett Crockett. That family knows how to do bad-ass names.

Jeez, before he fought his way back to being an All Black regular, that's not exactly an illustrious group of All Blacks on the bottom left...

Pretty sure it will be immediate, otherwise why bother to state you are going to play for Mako's due to the clash between the NPC and international schedules

Very cool letter and a classy way to go.

Wyatt's always been a master of timing - 71 test caps and only three losses (two last year)!

Will look forward to seeing him at the Mako - should be a very handy acquisition and replacement for Hames!

Good letter and good to see him return home to play - I had no idea he was from Ta$man originally.

He comes across as one of the real nice guys. Carved out a really impressive career. Probably turned down some serious coin overseas to stay in NZ. Respect.

@nepia His parents owned the camp ground at Tukurua.

You haven't closely followed my posts on the Ta$man production line of props... 🙂

Crockett, Hames, Perry, Halanukonuka, Salmon & Lomax?

Or have some of those guys left?

@duluth Halanukonuka has gone. Pretty doubtful we'll see anything of Hames.

There was talk that Ross Geldenhuys might also be back this year.

Agreed. That could have ended the career of a lesser person. Thankfully it didn't. I was always critical of what seemed to be Wyatt's propensity to give away a needless penalty, but he's been a dependable rock in the pack for a long time now.

Nice of him to step aside with enough time for the coaches to further develop the younger guys coming through.

I always liked Wyatt because he has the best name in rugby, but for me his partnership with Charlie F, coming off the bench together with 20-30 to go, was a massive weapon for the ABs and one that they haven't yet managed to replicate.

Who's the guy middle right with his hand on Crockett's knee?

Can't for the life of me remember his name.
    Cheers

Yep, it's Hungus. Interesting pic they chose, 71 test AB with very few test ABs.
