Black Caps vs Pakistan Series
-
Great day for NZ cricket!
-
The batters must all be feeling like chumps as the lower order made them all look silly.
It will be a long time before any international team get lobbed as many gimme catches in one game as they did tonight.Taylor has to be picked ahead of Bruce, who has done didly squat since being picked. We were exposed tonight with our lack of experience in the middle order, Rosco would have helped that no end.
Flush the dunny and move on.

I can't keep up with all of Hesson's rotations but surely he needs to select the best XI for Sunday.
I don't think Rossco is in Sunday's squad - I think it's today's XI plus Southee, Ferguson and Kitchen. I'd bring in Southee and Ferguson for Wheeler and Rance.
To get to our best team, I think Rossco comes in for Bruce and then the question is whether Phillips is the best option at keeper (and where he should bat in the order).
Given the current selectors' philosophy of giving players plenty of chances, I'm pretty sure he'll be persisted with for a while yet. I'd be inclined to persist with batting him at three as a pinch hitter - unless they would decide to push CdGh higher.
-
So after spending 5 weeks in deepest, darkest Southland with no access to Sky TV I finally get to watch some cricket today, the first time since the WI test series. And the NZ teams serve up that shit.
I'll have to take one for the team and not watch on Sunday.

Good result for world cricket. It's not good for the game when one team is too dominant.

Yeah, plenty of talk about the batting but it was the bowling that cost us the game. Anything above 170 is going to be tough against that lineup, so having Rance and Wheeler instead of Southee and Ferguson severely weakened us. No early wickets put our spinners under the pump.
If Pakistan score 200 again on Sunday I don't like our chances.

Can't for the life of me understand why Sodhi isn't playing the ODIs, if not tests as well. He's a class act these days.
In regards to tests, they want an all rounder at 6. Neesham/Anderson haven't come off so Santner bats there. Santner is a better batsman than Sodhi. I think Sodhi will be seen more in the future but didn't do a great job with taking his opportunities at the start of his career.
Amazing that Sodhi hasn't played IPL so far.
I'd prefer someone who has actually scored at least a 50 in the shorter forms of the game to be referred to as an 'all rounder' but that's just me.
Fair enough. NZ put out a test team in the 80s with test centuries down to number 10, so being able to bat and bowl (or keep, where applicable) to a reasonable level isn't a recent requirement.

Still very much a bowler who can bat pretty well sometimes in my view.

I'm hoping for Phillips to open in the Munro role and Taylor to bat 4.Phillips has been dropped as well and Blundell brought in as a keeper. What role is he likely to fill in the batting order? I don't think he opens for Wellington so does this suggest Kane promoted to open again?
-
Pretty harsh on Phillips. Pick him, play him out of position, and then drop him. I know he didn't look great last night, but if all you do is open then you'll prefer the ball coming onto the bat with the field up.
-
I haven't seen any of the other T20 games so I don't know what Phillips' previous form was like. But the timing of his axing, with only one game to go, can only be seen as a desperate move.
