Pakistan have clearly come here motivated. Their effort in the field has been far better than the Windies and their bowlers can stick to a plan. Their problem has been that their batsmen have struggled to adapt to our conditions, especially early on. One warm up match just isn't enough. It was the same way with the test matches last season.
Is this post serious? Even the Windies did better than the pakis did today.
Their batting was unmitigated shite. But I agree with @hydro11 that their commitment in the field has been great.

Bloody Hell, someone has fraped Reason. This article is actually really good!
Gezz he has an axe to grind with McCullum doesn't he? I couldn't disagree with him more on that, it was McCullum that instilled the "team first" attitude that had been lacking previously and Kane has continued to build on that. He and Hesson turned the team around, particularly from a culture POV, and we are seeing the benefits of that now.
Not to take anything away from Kane, he's a fantastic captain, but he didn't set all of this in motion.
Fuck I can't stand Reason.

100% this.
When Hesson was appointed and McCullum was given captaincy and they went to SA and got towelled, they bacame my two hatiest people in sport. I honestly thought they had no idea.
I've never been so wrong and am very grateful that Hesson and McCullum turned NZ cricket round.
It's a team to be proud of again and Kane is carrying on from that

We've had some great captains going back to when S Fleming was in charge.

Unusually up beat from Reason - but I left the article less convinced that this is a CWC caliber team than before.
It's a team that could win - but, it's hard to see it's a stronger team than McCullum had last time.
Brendon himself would be ahead of Munro in the pinch hitting opener role.
Anderson, Elliot, Ronchi, Vettori had a lot more experience and middle order firepower than Latham, Nicholls, Santner, Astle/CdGh .

Elliot and Vettori were magnificent in the CWC
I still have the semi final saved on mysky, lost count the number of times I’ll played that final over again. Occasionally rewatching the final half hour or so in whole. Even knowing the result you still feel the tension and fist pump when the hairy javelin sends that ball into the stands to win the game -

Nothing's changed. We would need to be at our peak best performance and would still require one of the big boys like oz to have a bad day

Yeah only Latham is clearly ahead of his counterpart in that middle order. A fit Corey Anderson can make a big difference in that line up though. Batting at 7 with Santner at 8 covers our biggest batting weakness which is the death overs, where we don't have anyone who can really dominate an attack.
-
If Anderson comes back then it'll be interesting to see if they can fit he and CDG into the same line up as that gives us serious hitting power. They could bat 6 and 7 with Santner at 8 and play another three bowlers be they three quicks or two and another spinner (ideally Sodhi for mine).
