And to think they want to move tests to 4 days of 105 overs. If they can’t get through 90 overs how the fuck will they bowl 105?
The rules around rates will be much tougher. They will find a way to magically speed up.
Good. They p1ss around so much. Start earlier, get through overs quicker, 4 day tests. Viewers would magically come back.

Knowing day four is technically day five may take a bit of adjusting to.
What next? Four stumps to bowl at ?

I dunno.. Quite used to seeing the Black Caps lose tests within 4 days, so I don't think viewers would come back for that..

Pffft. What a hater. Sounds like someone missed our triumphant victory within four days over the mighty West Indies.
This post would have had a lot more resonance 30 years ago.

Look on the bright side, we'd take more tests vs India/Aussie/England/SA "into the final day" which is a moral victory for any BC side...

If they are simply trying to fit the same number of overs into a shorter time period then that seems bloody ridiculous to me ...
test matches are exciting when they are close - they are 10-15 games within a game. If that plays out over 4 vs 5 days ... no difference to me.
-
Id suggest instead of focusing on 4 day tests there should be a focus on more day/night tests.
What's there been? A handful in the past couple of years? it needs to ramp up significantly.
If that means playing more tests at bigger venues or getting better lighting to current venues then so be it.

100%! They are fantastic, they add to the excitement without actually changing the game itself. Basically there are more variables, meaning it's not just the first morning that the seamers can have some fun - it can be day 4 under lights as well. I'm sold on the idea.

No, I don't think they are.
They're talking adding 15 overs a day ( 1 hour extra per day).
So they are losing 90 overs by removing day 5 and adding 60 overs by extending the 4 days by an hour. The aim, is to be able to fit test matches into a weekly schedule. E.g. 4 days cricket > 3 days rest & travel > 4 days cricket etc
So that a 5 match test series could fit into 5 weeks rather than 7 weeks. So we can fit in all the other white-ball formats & tournaments that generate cash for the administrators.
I'm open to it, not 100 % sold, but when the alternative is NZC going with 2 match test series it's potentially appealing to me. But I reckon David White would see it as room to add 2 more ODIs .......

Fifth 50+ opening partnership between these two. By NZ standards that is absolutely incredible!
