Rookie QBs looking good so far in preseason - Watson, Trubisky and Kizer all excelling in their first action. What it means is hard to say as they are playing against backups in pretty bland games (as far as scheming goes) but then again Dak Prescott this time last year lit up the preseason and of course transferred it to the regular season.
On the other hand veteran Glennon looked horrible for Chicago in limited time against the starters. Trubisky might be Bears starting QB by week 1 if this keeps up.
I expect Mahommes to look very good for the Chiefs tomorrow as the 49ers depth at secondary is thin and again he'll be playing against the backups.
-
@KiwiMurph Mahomes did alright as the Chiefs lost to the 49ers. CJ Beathard was also pretty decent, although against second and third tier players.
It will be interesting to watch the QB duel in Chicago unfold however Dak Prescott benefited from having the best O-line in the NFL and a superstar RB to hand the ball to. Trubisky has a shit O-line to protect him, mediocre running game to back him up and also mediocre WRs to throw to.
If the Bears are smart they'll just play Glennon the whole season, but they're not so Trubisky to be thrown to the Bears. -
Buffalo swaps some WRs. Picks up Philly WR Jordan Matthews and trades away WR Sammy Watkins to LA Rams. These pre-season trades rarely work out for the involved teams (unless its New England).
-
@Sneakdefreak The best part for the 49ers from reports was the performance of the rookies - a lot of them really showed up (even some undrafted ones). Very promising.

The most important thing for buffalo is the picks I think. They're loaded up for a massive rebuild next year. 6 picks in the first 3 rounds I think. Race on the bottom of AFC East between them and the Jets now.

@Cyclops Might as well. Tom Brady has at least another two years in him.
I wonder how long Belichick has left? Jimmy G might be good enough to carry the Pats to the playoffs post-Brady, but only if Belichick is there.
-
@mimic I think he will continue until he decides he's too old, so maybe another decade. He's proven that his system guarantees regular season success regardless of the QB and the owner will let him retire on his own terms.

Anyone else interested in playing Fantasy this season, we're likely to have a couple of open slots in our NFL.com standard league, drafting next week 3pm Sunday 3rd September-

I was about to put my hand up for this. At least someone else can win it now

Some interesting cuts by teams before the start of the season:
Victor Cruz cut by Chicago, Brock Osweiler cut by Browns, TJ Ward cut by Broncos to name a few. 49ers cut Matt Barkley and choose to go with CJ Beathard as backup QB (he's been good in preseason).
-
Fantasy draft done (I actually did alright) and some big news that will make M4L cream his knickers:
Broncos, Brock Osweiler agree to terms on one-year deal.
-
Slightly surprised that the Pats cut Austin Carr and Brandon Bolden.
But then I saw the Pats make a trade with the Colts. Pick up WR Dorsett for QB Jacoby. I guess they saw more value in Dorsett than Carr, who I thought looked good in preseason.
I guess Bolden is just a casualty given the plethora of RBs that the Pats now have. -
@Sneakdefreak Definitely a youth movement in San Francisco - they cut WR Kerley who was their most productive receiver last year and they signed to a 3 year deal in the offseason. They went with 3 rookie wide receivers - two of whom were undrafted. 55% new players for the 49ers vs a year ago.
-
@KiwiMurph Kerley lost out to Victor Bolden who was pretty amazing on the kick returns.
-
@Sneakdefreak and to Trent Taylor who is pretty much a carbon copy of Kerley.
