Now she gets a YC after a reactive reach for the ball becomes a deliberate knock on when Wales were in the red zone.

Wales looking like they have never had to fight for their lunch against big brown girls before.

Obviously no one told them that is what makes our ABs good. Growing up with big sisters.

Simple quick hands and a huge overlap for Winiata who goes in for a hat trick.
No conversion and it's 44-12 5 to go

Ball lost over the line from one of the big girls on the crash and that ends the game.

    44-12
    NZ
Tries: SC Winiata (3) RWM Wickliffe (2) ES Blackwell P Woodman SJ Waaka
    Conversions: KM Cocksedge (2)

    Wales
    Tries: SM Harries M Clay
    Conversions: E Snowsill

They looked like they enjoyed that hit out but will need to cut down the mistakes and learn to deal with driving mauls better for the big games.

Meanwhile England Heifers beat Spain 56-5
USA leading Italy 7-0 after 3 minutes and there are 3 more games to come today

By the way, those six missed conversions could come back to bite in the second round of the tournament.

I have just read the rules to see how the three pools work and basically you need to win your pool (for us that probably means beating Canada) or be the best second placed team (points difference). As we are probably the best of the 4-6 ranked we should get through but would then face the best team in the semi.
If we win the pool then ranking 1-3 will also be PD.

Just watched the replay. Good first game, but still lots of room for improvement.
Cocksedge clearly had an off-day. She's normally an excellent kicker and doesn't do stupid things. Hope she finds her kicking boots before the next game.

Spain, Hong Kong & Japan are the easy beats in this tournament, so the Black Ferns' next game (against Hong Kong) will be the one to put a lot of points on the board. If Canada can beat Hong Kong 98-0, the Black Ferns should get over 100 points.

    Other results:

    Ireland 19 - 17 Australia
    France 72 - 14 Japan

    Next game:
Black Ferns v Hong Kong, Sunday 13 August, kick-off 11.00pm NZT.

Black Ferns did what they had to do, putting lots of points on the board. This is what happened during this round:

Watch a bit of the game as had some money on (Black Ferns win by 101+, Woodman 6+ tries) and we scored after 53 seconds. 35nil after 20mins. Not a lot of Hongkong-nese tackling going on!

Wow. Really surprised by that Aussie-France scoreline. The Aussies only just lost to a very good Irish side. Then they get monstered!

Ferns have set themselves up in a prime position to top the seeding as long as they beat Canada.
Unless there are upsets or score blowouts, with one round to go it is looking like the picks for the semis are NZ v USA and France v England

@Crucial It would be great if they can avoid England until the final. France is also looking strong this year. Haven't seen the USA play, yet, this year.

Bloody Sky UK isn't showing any of the Black Ferns matches at all - hopefully they might show the semis.

@Crash Yeah ITV is apparently only broadcasting England, Wales & Ireland games. The webpage below suggest that you should be able to watch all other games on the WR website:

    Home | Women's Rugby World Cup 2025

    Home | Women's Rugby World Cup 2025

The official home of the Women's Rugby World Cup 2025 in England, with all the latest news, highlight videos, standings, fixtures, results, games, ticketing and event information

The stream on the WR website is very good. Easy access (no silly sign up). They show all games that ITV aren't showing.
