@Wurzel I think this is the article?

Rookie Wallabies squad member Campbell Magnay is set to join a NZ Super Rugby team

NEW Wallabies squad member Campbell Magnay is close to signing with Kiwi Super Rugby heavyweights the Crusaders.

In a stunning move just days after Magnay was called into Wallabies camp by coach Michael Cheika, it has emerged that the hard-running Queensland back is deep in talks to move to Christchurch as part of his two-year deal with Japanese club Suntory.

Magnay’s Japanese contract makes it virtually impossible to return to the Reds because it violates the ARU’s own policy about selecting players from overseas only for Super seasons.

Cheika has one potential ace up his sleeve, which is to continually pick Magnay in his squads until the end of the year, giving him limited time next season in Japan and having clubs from there rethink their approach to Australian players.

In the meanwhile, the Crusaders have no qualms offering Magnay a short-term contract that will let him play Super Rugby and then slot straight back into the Japanese Top League.

The Crusaders already have Aussies Michael Alaalatoa and Pete Samu as part of their dominant squad and also took former Red Digby Ioane in when he could not finalise a deal with Queensland.

Magnay’s agent Anthony Picone, who also stitched up Sean McMahon’s deal to move to Japan, could not be reached for comment.

Can't say I'm happy with any NZ team offering this kind of contract. Sign a Kiwi, dammit!

    @Tim Who believes Veitch anyway?

Tamanivalu would be playing on the wing whichever team he had signed for.

What the fuck is up with all the Aussies at the Saders? Surely the NZRU should step in when a NZ franchise has four fucking Aussies in it?

Magnay is pretty good but why is a guy that young even spending time in Japan? You aren't going to develop your rugby over there are you?

Aaron Mauger or Mark Hammett? Highlanders fans don't have to wait much longer to find out who their team's new head coach is.

Appointing Japan-bound Tony Brown's replacement was always the top priority when the Highlanders' 2017 campaign ended last weekend, and chief executive Roger Clark told Stuff a decision was due by the end of next week.

In what is shaping as one of rugby's worst kept secrets, former All Blacks and Crusaders midfielder Mauger is expected to beat out fellow Cantabrian Hammett for the top job.

I'm not against overseas players in the NZ franchises.

But Magnay is an appalling signing, for the simple reason that Crusader country already have Will Jordan and Brayden Ennor from the U20s in their laps.

    Pussy mgmt.

I'm not against overseas players in NZ franchises but I think there should be different rules depending on where the players are from. I'm fine with 3-4 overseas players making it into a squad if they're from Tier 2 teams, particularly the PIs. I'd even be more lenient with Argie players, since they only have one pro team. But a Tier 1 country with 4-5 pro teams like Australia? It should be one player max, not fuckin four. It's ridiculous.

We do have different rules regarding overseas players. Basically PI are treated differently.

Just saw a post from Jeff Toomaga-Allen on instragram, which included the names of players leaving the Canes.
Some I knew, Uhila, Abbott, Gibbins & Black. I couldn't remember reading anywhere that Leni Apisai and Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi are leaving.

Now, TTT is from Rotorua & has played for the Chiefs U17s and I think he plays for Taranaki(?); the Chiefs are losing a halfback. Could it be that he has signed with the Chiefs?

Leni Apisai has been overtaken by Riccitelli & I assume Aumua has been signed by the Canes. Again, the Chiefs are losing a hooker. Same question.

    Does anyone have more info?
