    Also: its not just players.

    On the weekend, while most of my club played two games back to back, the ref had to do the same and had been told so beforehand. Neither club had a qualified AR on hand, either (our three were out on the field). The week before, I had to ref Third Grade after the scheduled ref didn't get the change of times.

    I have been speaking to MvJ and he said he'd given reffing the arse for this year as he was sick of the bullshit. He has a genuine point: refs often get treated like shit, particularly by the private schools and premier rugby.

    My club is taking pains to be courteous to refs++, particularly when we're hosting games. Free food, free drink (soft or hard), and use of the limited facilities we have.

    And, as we're on the end of a thrashing more often than not, we're not really having any discipline issues with them.

    ++Although as Third Grade captain on the weekend I got extremely frustrated that the ref wasn't calling the other team for offside. I decided to walk around the back of one ruck and kick the ball away as the 9 was about to pick it up 🤔 Not my best move but I had a laugh with him about it afterwards 🙂

    @NTA, feel your pain Nick.
    The Hornsby under 19s team of a few years ago won the Upper North Shore comp and many of the players still qualified for the U19's again the next year.

    But that next year, the majority of the team didn't return as they were being paid to play by... Gordon, Lindfield, etc.

    Poaching from other teams, especially the small clubs like Hornsby and Wahroonga (where my allegiances lay) by the bigger boys of the lower, middle and upper North Shore is absolutely rife.

    The only reason Hornsby has been able to field a 1st and 2nd grade team is players backing up and many are oldies from Wahroonga and Hornsby GO's.

    I'm not game to play that shite even though they keep asking me so kudos to you for playing.

    @RoninWC and now you can't pay players in Subbies but still can in Central Coast so Hornsby could send themselves broke doing that 😁

    @NTA
    But we all know that there are still a lot of payments being made, just out of site.
    I've even heard of Colts players being offered jobs and the like.
    I certainly know that there are some 1st players who get a case or two of beer to show up at Hornsby.
    Speaking of which, there is a GO's gala day at Hornsby next weekend, the 15th if you are interested in a run with the Wahroonga Toothless Tigers 😉

    Don't have any fucks to give for the tahs.

    Only 14 turned up yesterday, then one guy got a fucking horrendous concussion off a high tackle 10 minutes in. Another guy did his groin cunning up to halftime.

    Was 33-nil at halftime. 92-nil at the end. Fuck this.

    The Kings and Spears are about to join the Pro 12.

    The future makeup of the Pro12 will become clearer on Friday with the South Africa Rugby Union ready to confirm the Southern Kings and the Cheetahs will be cut from Super Rugby.

    If it makes you feel any better, we had it just about the same, only the first injury was a knee on the 45th minute and then cramps on the 60th to finish the game 12vs15.
    It is a bitch to get everyone to show up and care enough.

    It’s official: Cheetahs, Kings out of Super Rugby, look set to join Europe’s ‘Pro14’

    JOHANNESBURG — It's finally official. The Cheetahs and the Kings are out of Super Rugby, and both widely expected to announce their inclusion in European rugby

    Not from management, but the closest I could find.

    And the BBC have quotes from PRO12, but nothing specific I don't think.

    and this

    Cheetahs and Kings to join "Pro 14"

    No money quotes yet, but it sounds like PRo12 are organising themselves for two extra sides next season.

    As for the grounds - I'd say modern grounds will be watered so much they will be fine. It's the heat tha twill be interesting. January averages 39 degrees.

    New South Wales has dominated the Australian Schools sides, despite both the state sides missing out on Saturday's final.

    The Australian Schools side was picked after the four-day National Schools Championships this week, which ACT won for the first time since 1988.

    ACT has supplied just two players to the national side

    @NTA The selector is apparently from the ACT...

    I also read that the NSW sides had coaching dramas just before the competition. I've always subscribed to the theory that you should select the better players and mould your own team anyway.
