Anyone know why was Mahia chosen as the launch ?

Surrounded by sea on three sides. Remote. Good launch vector over the ocean I believe.

or good local kai for the launch party

Shit. They better hope there isn't a whale stranding there on launch day or all hell will break loose from the eco warriors

Who? The whales? They can't even find their way without hitting the beach.

The Eco warriors , whales are just large lemmings judging by their suicidal tendencies. They'd be attracted to a rocket blast.

There is actually a slight risk to a stranding happening and I wouldn't be surprised if timings of launches take that into account at certain times of the year.

I think the theory at Mahia is that it used to be an island, not a peninsula and the instinctive migratory path carries them through a non existent channel.

Anyway, I bet Gibbit will be down there with the rellies for a free prime seat of the take off (and obligatory feed afterwards)

Some place just outside Christchurch was originally chosen with Mahia as the back-up.

However Chch City didn't process the consents quickly enough for Rocket Labs liking so they made a decision to go with their second choice.

Something about a missing Cultural Impact Report from memory. I bet that's looking really important now.

Any chance they could give the planned trajectory a slight nudge in the direction of North Korea?
I'd settle for a fly by..

We have discussed in the past how facts should never get in the way of making a point on the internet and here you are like an ostrich sticking its head in the sand pretending it didn't happen .
