The "other" round 11 Super Rugby games

Geezus, the Rebels are so shit. Easy bonus point win for the Lions (47-10).
I hope that at least the Brumbies can stop the Lions next week, or they'll go to the top of the table in case the Crusaders lose a game. The Chiefs can't overtake them if they don't seriously improve their points differential. The Canes have the best chance, unless the Saders keep on winning.
Stupid conference system can give the Lions home advantage without having played NZ teams up to the Grand Final.

Yeah, it's a massive advantage for them. I can't see them beating 3 consecutive New Zealand teams at home, if they have to do that.

Reasonably entertaining game between the Jaguares and Sunwolves. With the Sunwolves having improved since last season and Jaguares missing some crucial players (such as Sanchez), both teams can win this (not sure whether this would have been the case if the Jaguares had been full strength at home) and the score line shows this. Have already seen some good tries; esp. the last Argie one.

Quite an entertaining game I thought. Willie Britz and Uwe Helu have impressed all season for the Sunwolves.

Things may even out a little at the end but currently the table is a complete joke when deciding the finals places.
The Blues (who cop a fair load of shit for supposedly being useless) deserve to be knocking on the door of a finals place not in the also rans at the expense of shit Oz and SA teams.
They could accumulate the fifth best total points even when playing in the toughest conference (NZ) yet still miss out.
And the fish heads wondered why they had to ditch the format after 2 seasons?

@Crucial I guess whatever NZ team finishes 5th would be licking their lips in playing the hapless OZ team that wins that conference.....
Whichever Oz Team makes the finals should be embarrassed to be there.
It is such a weird set up.
As the table stands the Saders get the only home game on offer and the Canes and Landers have to travel to SA. Chiefs only have to go as far as Canberra.
Coming second in the NZ conference is almost a bigger bonus than coming first this year.
The other big effect is on the ABs. Some players end up travelling to SA 3 times in the year and Argentina twice before being asked to travel on the EOYT.

It would be a real "fuck you" to SANZAAR if all 5 NZ teams do qualify. The Blues are probably fighting with the Sharks for that last wildcard spot. They travel to SA to play the Stormers which is a must win. The Sharks will host the Stormers and Lions at home in key matches to come.
I still think that the LIons will finish top if they beat the Brumbies on Friday. The rest of their game are in SA.

@Bovidae Unfortunately it is impossible for all 5 nz teams to make the playoffs. A maximum of 5 teams out of Australia/NZ Conferences can make it and one of them has to be the Aus Conference winner. The Aus/NZ teams arent competing with the Sharks for a playoff spot.

I get the concept of conferences but it doesn't work in a comp like this where it is possible for the 5th best team overall to miss out on post regular season play despite having a harder line up of games.
I guess they just thought it would never get close to that but the weakness of Australian rugby overall and the lack of depth in SA has really shown the structure up to be flawed.

Most enjoyable contest of the weekend
