Anyway, golden oportunity for Jeets to exorcise past demons and score a ton against SA.

He got out bro......
Aw.....you mean THAT Jeets. .....
Shit he could get 5 off 70 balls and half of you would wank on about how brilliantly he batted with poise and authority....

Nicholls plays some nice shots but his defensive technique is nowhere near where it needs to be. Goes hard at the ball and often gets caught in two minds - his most common dismissal is sticking the bat out to balls that are not hitting the stumps.
This sounds eerily similar to the Black Caps batting coach's career at the crease....

TV commentators thought Rossco's calf looked bad enough that he might not be back. In which case we're actually in a bit of trouble at effectively 177/4 and 0/1 in our 4th innings (compared with being 177/3 and neither of our best batsmen out).
We really need to bat all day tomorrow, which doubtless means big innings from Kane, Neesham and BJ with some help from Santner and others.
With Corey Anderson floating about, I'm not sure Guppy would even be next cab off the rank to replace Nicholls.
How come we can't have a few brand new players like Hanscombe and Renshaw? Come into the team and averaging 60 after half a dozen tests. Why do we always get the Mitch Marshes? Except that one.
-
Not a bad days play for NZ, getting 6 for 79 and being over halfway to a first innings lead for the loss of only 3 wickets (4 wickets if Rossco can't bat). Honours would be even after day 2.
So if Taylor is out for the series will Hesson recall Guptill or look to a player like Brownlie?

Little graphic on the cricinfo page showing NZs best 2nd wicket stands v South Africa, and they are pretty shit. Unsurprising when you see Matt Horne is involved in two of them, and so is some guy called Darrin Murray who you don't even remember.
Some us remember him... Right up there with Blair Hartland as one of our greatest ever punts...
Remember when the two Blairs ( Hartland and Pocock ) opened? ( shudders )
I try to block that out those dark times...

How come, these days, none of us can do better? In my day, we didn't have video analysis so I was reliant on useless coaches to tell me what I was doing wrong. These days, watching endless cricket coverage it's obvious how to bat properly.
I can only think that the Millenials can't afford Sky TV or they're too engrossed with their iPhones to be interested. Or they're just weakly specimens.

Nicholls gone...wonder how Guptill would have gone.
Like this -
13 innings, average of 14, high score of 59 (thats about 20 short of Nichols HS v SA)
-
That was an effortless cover drive from Patel. He has great technique for a lower order batsmen.

A very good selection one might say.....
-
Should've kept our mouths shut...
-
Then he's gone.. bugger
-
Time for my boy Neesh to show that he's better then CDGH...
No major demons in the pitch, just need to play watchfully and get your eye in.
-
Neesh caught behind and.... NO BALL! Woohooo
-
Ohh man that's close as fuck actually. Possibly 0.00001mm behind the line...
Yup given out. Damn.
