    wasn't Ali there more in a mentor/minder type role for DC (although been playing a little too) so you'd think they'll can his contract?

    Yeah that was a load of shit. They hired him as a media liaison last year as they wanted to reserve him for this year. They couldn't contract him as a player though. Roster was full or salary cap or something. So he trains with them then as soon as they have space, they signed him to play. It's why the Goosen thing is a bit hypocritical of them. I don't recall him holding any press conferences , thank God, or writing any articles for their website.

    He did sideline comments during the France /Scotland game for the 6 Nations broadcast and was actually OK at it.

    I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not (normally when I background something with that line, it normally is), but can he fall foul of sports doping agencies for this? He's in-season on a bye week, allegedly caught red handed buying coke by the cops.

    Even though he tests negative, do they have any rules or sanctions for it being in someone's possession? I imagine if a cyclist was found with a bag of PED's but tested negative that doping agencies would still have something to say about it.

    Yes he's at the end of his career, and yes he's a knob. But he's still an active professional sportsman buying drugs. I'm a little bit surprised by how the media has reacted to this. Without opening a can of worms about league vs rugby players behaviour, because it's not my intention (and league players win hands down for being dicks) I imagine if it was a Kiwi league player caught doing the same thing that Rattue wouldn't be referring to him as a "victim".

    That's probably more to do with Ratpoo and how many clicks he calculates he'd get from whichever contrary view he publishes than any code war.

    @Crucial Yeah but that was for the BBC and had nothing to do with his "Media Job" for Racing.

    The problem with a famous guy saying he was buying it for a mate is that if they are really your mate they should come forward and take the heat off of you. If they don't then they're not really that good a mate are they, so you can probably just go ahead and name them.

    Yup, and if he was indeed buying it for a "mate" who wasn't present, it would indicate that he obviously has a good working relationship with the coke dealer, otherwise why would he be brokering the deal on behalf, given how much he has to lose...

    If I had a dollar for every person I locked up who blamed whatever illegal thing they had in their possession or action they'd just done on a mate, I'd almost be able to afford an All Blacks supporters jersey.

    @canefan

    Bigger damage will be the losing the very well paid 6 Nations coments gig... there's no shortage of people who don't have that coke-y smell who can step into that. He could have done some great (paid) work during the Lions your, ideal guy for that too. Till now.
