Aus win the toss and bat (fuck batting last). Resisted the temptation, and have picked their two great seamers; plus Lyon and O'Keefe. Oh, and Mitch Marsh (that just gave @NTA a rage hard-on)

Warner out, then Renshaw retires hurt (or ill, according to ESPN).

Yeah - that's an odd one. The two openers appear to have left at the same time.

    Dean Jones will be fuming!

Warner got bowled behind his legs earlier, but the spinner had overstepped.

First test starts in India today.

The pitch is a little, well, home town. It's dry as fuck, and already cracked.

And reports are the Aussies are a bit lost at the selection table. There is a chance they will leave out Josh Hazlewood, which could the dumbest thing i have ever heard. Instead they are going to pick a bunch of substandard spinners, in the hope that the Indian batsmen, i don't know, laugh themselves out?

3 day test in the offering here.

Not picking Hazlewood would have been silly. They picked basically their best team but i would have gone for Maxwell ahead of Mitch Marsh. I think they will do better than the English did because Australia have the better spinners. O'Keefe is a very good spinner, perhaps better than Lyon.

Thought I'd have a look at cricinfo to see how delusional the Indian fans are after the good Aussie start ... I wsan't disappointed.

Aashish Calla: "Not a huge amount of experience and/or ability against spin in the batting after these 2, is there? One more wicket and we might be in for a collapse? Calling for 200-225 all out, anyone?"

Ravi Aggarwal: "The scoreboard suggests that Australia is in ascendancy for sure, however, on such tricky surfaces, a collapse is never too far away. Kohli and company won't be sweating just as yet and Australia will want to go past 250 with not more than three or four down to start to take control of the game. These two will have to do majority of the scoring as the rest of the batting order is a tad inexperienced."

Vishwajit: "A decent start from India given the fact that Australia generally like to play the first Test innings with a run-rate of around 4 run/over."

@MajorRage almost as unsurprising as the wicket, which Warne describes as "an 8th Day wicket".

Guess it works if you're allowed to play nearly every game at home.

I hope we post something reasonable and fucking flog them, using spin.

    Fuck that guy, too.

And its not bad enough they prepared a mud slab, but this:

    86.5
J Yadav to Hazlewood, no run, beaten. Nice and slow outside off, Hazlewood plays the line and is beaten. A second warning for running on the pitch for Jayant.

Starc, meanwhile, is busily giving as few fucks as possible:

    87.5
    Jadeja to Starc, SIX
    87.4
Jadeja to Starc, no run, defended back
    87.3
Jadeja to Starc, FOUR, a swipe across the line for four through midwicket. Sits on one knee and belts the slog sweep wide of long-on
    87.2
Jadeja to Starc, FOUR, a thick inside edge and that will be four more. Flat delivery outside off, Starc is beaten on the inside edge, plenty of turn. Takes the inside edge and races down to the fine leg fence
    87.1
Jadeja to Starc, no run, well bowled. Slow through the air outside off, pushed back

    86.1
J Yadav to Starc, SIX, that's massive. Flight from Jayant, Starc gets under the length and sends the ball sailing way over midwicket for a gigantic six. That's a Starc special.

    85.3
UT Yadav to Starc, FOUR, nicely played. Waits for the one that is full, the follow-up to the bouncer, and then drills a delectable drive through mid-off. Lovely stroke

    82.3
Ashwin to Starc, SIX, a slog sweep and that's way over square leg for six! Flat delivery down leg, Starc clears his front leg and swipes the ball into the stands

50 for Starc with a SR of 113. Nice.

We survived. At least, Starc did. Hoff too.

Fuck your stupid pitches. Glad I don't have Fox, so can't watch it. Listening to your fans scream after every inconsequential fucking thing shits me.

Go out there for 1 ball tomorrow, then declare.

Jeez that was all out for about 200 but for Starc's obstinacy

Yes, hand up, I do like to see Aus cricket fall on bluster but the tiny bit of rationality that exists in me, also has to say fair dues to home records in home conditions. Hell at the moment no one wins overseas (except against minnows or Aussie teams in NZ overhyped test series - see what Idid there, applied a reverse shit sandwich review by snidely bagging Aus cricket and then acknowledging that they reamed us at home last time 😉
