Always good to have depth in certain positions but Dagg might find himself as an AB bench-warmer again with the return of NMS.

Nonsense. Just chuck NMS on the left wing and you've got the best All Blacks backline: 11 NMS 14 Dagg 15 Bender

    @Stargazer Wishful thinking as a Hawke's Bay fan. 😁

Savea will be picked if in decent form so it's between NMS and Dagg for the no.14 jersey. NMS has only ever played on the right wing for the ABs.

"in decent form" being the operative words. Savea hasn't had that form for a long time. Naholo hasn't been convincing either.

One thing is clear, with Jordie also in the mix, Dmac will probably get few chances in black.

Don't want to keep White Knighting Savea but his form in black has been fine. He ripped the Wallabies a new one at Eden Park to ensure we took the record consecutive test wins when they were seriously pushing us that game - or have you forgotten that already?

Canes fans can feel a bit aggrieved at his form in 2015, but other then that he's been pretty solid. 'Solid' isn't good enough for Savea detractors though, if he's not playing like Lomu reincarnated then he should be dropped.

There's also the obvious point that the AB selectors want at least one strong ball runner in their back three to compliment two fullbacks, so he's really competing with Naholo who has been inconsistent at best in black.

That's going to be interesting as even though it's been signalled that Jordie will be used as a FB for the Canes he's not guaranteed to start with NMS, Savea and Jane as other options in the back three.

DMac will be at FB for the Chiefs again this season but I'm sure he'll be moved to 1st 5 in 2018 to replace Cruden.

A few more current All Blacks whose contracts expire in 2017:
    Coltman, Liam
    Crotty, Ryan
    Fekitoa, Malakai
    Kerr-Barlow, Tawera
    Luatua, Steven
    Perenara, TJ
    Read, Kieran
    Squire, Liam
    Tamanivalu, Seta
    Whitelock, Sam

And a few on the (wider) fringes:
    Bird, Dominic
    Elliott, Hika
    Franklin, Tom
    Jane, Cory (to retire?)
    Hames, Kane
    Parsons, James
    Weber, Brad

Or did I forget to write down a re-signing?

Although seen as a long term centre, Rieko could also be an option for a power winger in the back 3 in the short term.

Savea is exactly the same on my PS4 team as he is in real life (well last couple of seasons as opposed to the Rolls Royce version of before). Has average games but because he's on the wing he scores tries from run ins and gains lots of metres before bumbling in to a tackler, so statistically he looks awesome.

TBF, the creators of the game gave him really shit stats that he didn't deserve, Zac Guildford is better at beating players in the game than Savea is.

Well if PS4 Savea is out of form then that settles it.

Yep, we also need to select Cory Jane on the wing, Ardie Savea at 8 (shout out to Canes4Life), the 19 year old and 22 year old Cullen and Umaga I've created - and Hugh Renton at 7 who actually plays ok and isn't constantly injured.

A relatively important name one would think. More important than Smith and Dagg for me.

Read too - but let's face it he isn't giving up the captaincy and will return.

@rotated Yes, that's why I wondered whether my list is up-to-date. I can't find anything more recent than a Crusaders media release from October 2013 saying that Whitelock and Read had re-signed "through until the end of the 2017 season".

A recent article about Ben Smith's re-signing said that Whitelock and Cane's contract expires this year. Read as well.

    Let's hope he's right 🙂

Hansen nevertheless anticipated that Read and Crusaders lock Sam Whitelock would soon sign on the dotted line as senior All Blacks and leaders.
