Black Caps vs Bangles

Awesome to see Tom hit another ton, and Nicholls spend some time at the crease. A bit concerning that Rosco and Kane are both back in the pavillion still 300 behind, but if we can put on another 250ish runs then we've gone a long way towards saving the test.
-
@No-Quarter saving the test? Only 11 wickets have been lost over 3 days.
We have 17 wickets left over 2.
Would have to be a collapse of ... err ... Black Cap proportions to lose from here.

Just saw a meme on the internerd (Facebook .. i fucking hate facebook ... browsing on there for tge first time in a month) that said c. Watling B. Southee is the most prolific combo in NZ tests.
Am quite surprised.
Better than c. Smith b. Hadlee??
I know Hadlee's carrer stretched out longer tham Smthy's but it just seems to me that Southee and BJ's careers are at most just over half way.
And given Paddles lasted what? Nearly 20 years? ( I'll check) I'm just a little surprised.

They had this stat up on the first day - and interestingly two of the Watling/Southee catches were in the field (not behind the stumps)! So currently Smith/Hadlee has 1 more as a wicketkeeper, but one less in general
-
Smith was keeper from 84 onwards (plus the 81 season), Hadlee retired in 90. So 6 years. Plus Hadlee hung around in 88 and 89 playing bugger all with injuries but wanting to get to 400.
Watling and Southee since 2012? 4 years, now maybe up to 5.
So without doing a number of tests comparison, that's not that outlandish.

Southee gets a lot of edges - although Sir Paddles also got plenty of edges, he got a lot of LBWs and bowleds.
Didn't Sir Paddles get asked what his secret was once, and he responded with something like "bowl the ball at the stumps, as fast as I can". He wasn't fucking around trying for caught-behinds.

TBH. This sounds like complete crap, and may be a quote misappropriated from someone else, like Waqar.
Because Hadlee was a medium fast swing bowler, of course he was trying to get caught behinds.

It is Sunday, in the middle of January.... and fuck all have turned up to watch test match cricket at the Basin, the Basin needs to be shunted down the pecking order of test venues.

Very possible - my addled memory has this from something I heard as a kid... it could just as easily have been my primary school cricket coach telling me how to bowl.
But misappropriated quotes are all the rage, so fuck it... it's now canon. -

LOL what? The Basin consistently gets the highest crowds of any ground in New Zealand to test matches. Besides the Basin already has been shunted down the order (missing out on an England test, for example) but that has nothing to do with crowds. You can say middle of January all you want but there was a severe weather warning for Wellington this morning.

Sir Paddles wanted wickets any way (legally and fairly) he could get them. That quote isn't his, but he did practise to be as close to the stumps as possible in his delivery stride so he could get more LBWs and bowleds by being straighter and more along the pitch.
He wasn't just a swing bowler as he could also seam it both ways, and when he bent his back, was also able to bounce Joel Garner (6'8" ...).
On the actual cricket, NZ are now 539 all out, Santner last man out for 73.
