Black Caps vs Bangles

Don't get me wrong, this is bloody disappointing. I did expect to have them bowled out by now, but on a flat track they aren't completely useless in the tests. Don't have enough power hitters for the shorter forms though.

wait on a sec, the two blokes currently carving us up have away averages of 38 and 34. If they were NZ players we would be questioning their place in the side, but here they are in a 185 unbeaten partnership scoring at basically 4 an over.
Iqbal seems to be the only one who averages more than 40 away.
I think this is their first away test since 2014 or something. Rahim is a keeper so gets a bit of a let off for his batting average. I reckon the Aussies would take Rahim ahead of Wade/Nevill even though Watling is better. Taylor only averages something like 36 away from home when you take out his runs in Zimbabwe. If I was picking a combined side, I would definitely pick Shakib (even as a specialist bat). After all, we currently have Nicholls bating 5. I would probably bat Mominul ahead of Taylor at 4 and bring in Iqbal for Raval.
We seemed to have bowled with far too much width but they have only done so well because they are good enough to take advantage of it. This really isn't a bad Bangladesh side - it's just that their quicks aren't good enough, they have a few passengers in the batting and the conditions aren't suitable for their good spinners. That's probably enough to stop them from winning but it doesn't make them so different from Sri Lanka.
If the series was in Bangladesh then i think it would be 50/50.

@Gunner benign pitch, slow bowlers, no decent spinner. If it doesn't swing about, our attack becomes very pedestrian very quickly.
Hang on.
Aren't you the guy who talked Santner up to ridiculous levels?
I talked up Santner a lot in the early days but mostly as an ODI player. In tests he hasn't done a lot but he is probably worth persisting with because he can bat a bit and we don't need a spinner to bowl a lot of overs. I would probably pick Todd Astle but he hasn't made the most of the few chances he has had.

We're in big trouble here. Facing a big first innings - will need to bat well and really handle the bowlers well.
This isn't the first time that the Bangers have dominated us. Vettori bailed us out bigtime (http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/current/match/361758.html) after we faced a first innings deficit and were in big trouble at 7/100 with a deficit of 145 still.
Here's hoping
Edit: we had to get 317 in hte fourth innings to win - and managed it. I remember being very very nervous at the time

But this is the first time Bangladesh have played a test outside Asia in a very very long time.
They should actually be struggling.
I'm not actually watching, but this has been pretty disastrous output from NZ.
Bangles are actually getting quite good in general. But they should be getting slaughtered first time out in a non-Asian test:
Jurgensen should be getting very nervous.

This is definitely a fair point. We certainly aren't bowling well.

Does anyone know what's going on with the pitch at the Basin? Seems like it's always lifeless as fuck nowadays compared to previous years. I may or may not be imagining that though.
No excuse here though, this is getting a bit silly now. 413/4 after being put into bat is pretty embarrassing on our part. We're already playing for the draw.

In the past 3 tests there we have batted first and have been rolled for about 200 every time. I don't think it was the pitch to blame though in any of those cases.

In a few years time we will be able to place.
Baz retirement.
Bond resigning.
Decline of Southee and Boult.
Hesson being surrounded by chump specialist coaches.
Boult's back injury.
Edgar leaving selector job.Right now I can't place any of these in a cause/effect order. It's all a bit chaos. But the decline of the blackcaps since 2014 shows no sign of being reversed.

There was a time a couple of years ago where it seemed that Boult and Southee could both go down as New Zealand greats. However, it seems like both of them have sort of regressed to the point where they are just good quality fast bowlers.
I still reckon they might well be the best fast bowling duo ever given Paddles and Bond were both far superior to the triers they operated with.....

@MN5 if you are right, that's really sad for us.
This has now reached embarrassing proportions. Their 2nd highest total away from home ever (only behind an innings on what i assume was a road, given 1,613 runs were scored for only 19 wickets), and it's miles ahead of 3rd. And they are only 4 down.
Inspired decision to put them in.
-
I just checked on Cricinfo, and WTAF.
Yeah, fucking good option to put them in to bat on a road. And only 4 wickets down. Why wouldn't the Bangles take the opportunity to boost everyone's averages if they know their bowling attack is weaker?
Oh yeah, and our specialist coaches FUCKING SUCK.

gottim yes! piss off you're out! we're back in this boys!

The last three tests we have batted at the Basin and we were rolled on day one for less than 230 in all of those games. Smith, Matthews and Dhoni all won the toss and decided to have a bowl. At the Basin, there is a bit in it on the first day but the pitch never breaks up. The past 3 tests at the Basin have had 4 double centuries (McCullum, Voges, Sanga, Williamson) but all of those were scored later in the game. Anyone would have had a bowl.

in all seriousness, well done to Shakib, the highest score by a Bangladesh batsman.
