Great game. Strikers were pissing it in, but McCullum with a captaincy and leadership masterclass to organise his team home by 10 runs.

And the fact that his bowlers stopped chucking down shite.

you reckon Macca had nothing to do with that?

I didn't say that. But it certainly took some of them a while to understand what a pie was, and why you shouldn't bowl them.

    Which is understandable, being Queenslanders.

If it happens to line up with him changing the field every delivery like a Sri Lankan captain getting paid by the minute, and it gets a result, then great.

Yeah pretty fair team, though teams like this are always a bit contentious.

As a (former) opener myself I have a problem with Root in the opening spot while scoring all his runs from the comfort of number 3. It hasn't been a great year for openers but Azhar Ali from Pakistan has scored 950 runs at 52.77, including an epic 302* against West Indies, so deserves the spot next to Cook.

Then it is between Pujara and Root for the number 3 spot, Pujara wins out there but neither of their records stack up against our own Ross Taylor, who played 9 tests and scored 606 runs at 60 including three centuries. I'd have Kohli at 3 and Rosco at 4. The Guardian would never leave out their golden boy Root though.

Fair dues to Stokes and Ashwin, definitely leading the world in the all-rounder stakes at the moment. Fantastic years for both of them.

Rangana Herath is the great story there though. Fucking 38 years old and still carving up at the highest level. Well played good sir.

Rabada the rookie of the year, that kid has potential in abundance. He is some talent. At least SA fans have their cricket still in tact for the time being.

Ross Taylor averages 24 this year when you take out Zimbabwe. He shouldn't be anywhere near the team.

ICC have named their teams of the year too...

ICC Test Team of the Year 2016 1 David Warner, 2 Alastair Cook (capt), 3 Kane Williamson, 4 Joe Root, 5 Adam Voges, 6 Jonny Bairstow, 7 Ben Stokes, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Rangana Herath, 10 Mitchell Starc, 11 Dale Steyn, 12 Steven Smith

ICC ODI Team of the Year 2016 1 David Warner, 2 Quinton de Kock, 3 Rohit Sharma, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 AB de Villiers, 6 Jos Buttler, 7 Mitchell Marsh, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Kagiso Rabada, 11 Sunil Narine, 12 Imran Tahir

Some slighty odd calls in the test side...tho the voting period was September 2015 to 2016, so Kohli missing out to Voges maybe makes sense, ditto Kane for Pujara, or Warner for .. anyone at all

Way to fuck up using my handle, too.

I like a good laugh around Christmas. Marsh getting into team-of-anything is a good one.

To be fair that period (sep - sep) is probably the best he will ever play -

You could build a great team out of Aussies who should have played a 100 tests in the 90's but all time greats were in the way & another of Aussies were hyped beyond all reason in the 20teens who got capped because no one at all was in the way.

Cough Ashton Agar. And every other spinner who wasn't Lyon.

He did plunder runs against a ferocious black caps attack.

Ferocious might be exaggerating a bit.

Spin in the first hour and they fall for it after three deliveries.

Azhar Ali hits 205*, he's had a hell of a 2016, fashioning a very impressive record as a test opener for Pakistan. I don't think Pakistan were the complete walkover people made them out to be in NZ. We played some quality cricket to put them away so comfortably.

Davey Dumdum falls victim to evidence of a vaguely lukewarm spot (certainly not a hot spot) and a spi (not a spike) on snicko.

As far as compelling evidence to overturn a decision goes, it was puzzling.

@NTA yeah nah. Was in the end quite conclusive. Just neither in and of themselves massively obvious. Combined it was damning.

For the supposedly #2 ranked team in the world, on form this summer Pakistan have two opening batsmen and nine lemons.

Imagine scoring a double century & a 43 and your team losing by an innings...
