Aus v NZ -Chappell Hadlee series II

I hope they stick with the same team pretty much.
I relaly need an early night so if they can lose the toss and Aus have a bat and get rolled for about 78 and then we clean up the total for the loss of one wicket in 15 over, that would be just great, thanks!
-
I agree @Hooroo I would leave the team as is, though Southee for Ferguson I could live with.
I hope we've done nothing but catching drills since Sunday.
-
Doully reckons Southee will come back, with Ferguson dropping out,
Not down to performance, but he hopes it was a plan and Ferguson was told when they took him on tour, you will play game 1 & 3...especially since he said his speed dropped off significantly in his last overs.
-
@taniwharugby If they're serious about competing then you'd really have to drop Ferguson on performance. His speed did noticeably fall away after his opening spell - down to high/mid 130s, but all those no-balls we bowled (mainly Ferguson) were extremely costly as well - I haven't added up what all the free hits went for, but at least one went for six - so I'd guess they cost at least 20 runs.
-
@Chris-B. is a fine line to tread there though isn't it.
You want them comfortable enough to perform at their best and not be pressured into errors through fear of being dropped but on the flipside know that poor performance is not acceptable.

Yeah, you'd hope his selection was more "we're giving you some experience at the top level to learn" as opposed to "you're selected! Oh wait you got smacked you're dropped now!". I didn't expect to see him until game 3 after Aus went 2-0 up.

Heard someone (maybe Craig Cumming) on the radio last week before the team was named making the excellent point that playing Ferguson in the first game was potentially the least pressure situation.
Problem with keeping him till game 3 was if we actually managed to go into it with the scores tied at 1-1. Much more pressure if the C-H was actually on the line.

He had one go for (effectively) 11 runs (4 from the delivery + nb + 6 from the free hit), and one for 7 runs (2 + nb + 4 free hit).
So 20 sounds about right including a couple of others I assume
Yeah he had four no-balls and the first free hit I'm pretty sure was a slow bouncer that went for 2 - so that's 15 and I'm not sure what happened with the other one, but I suspect it went for four.
-
Fuck I hate the 2 free hit rule. It's so childish.
Apparently, according to cricinfo commentary, it was NZs first no ball in 35 matches. So maybe the rule has the desired effect of reducing no balls (if that was the design?). But I think the design was to allow the flame thrower operators a heads up. I never felt watching 4 or 5 no balls out of 300 deliveries ruined my watching pleasure.
Free hits and scrum penalties. My hate list.

Glad to see Southee in for Ferguson. Choosing to bowl first is interesting. Haven't seen the conditions but batting first is the norm in Canberra. From memory, it is a big ground and the pitch is generally a bit slow.
I think it's due to a bit of rain, and hoping for some swing. Not silly with Southee about - roll them for a hundy and done in a couple if hours
-
Fuck. This is like all those times touring sides turn up to the 'gabba for the first test of the year, see a bit of green, and bowl first. Queue Aus scoring 560/6 declared.
46/0 after less than 9 is about as bad as it gets when you decide to bowl first.
