Appropriate that the two young blokes were out there at the end.

Where the FUCK was a bit of that attitude in the first two Tests?

What a ridiculous turnaround from the previous test.

......and by "ridiculous" I mean "good" in a roundabout way.

Pretty crazy. Saffers weren't quite as sharp on the bowling front, but new kids Renshaw and Hanscomb stood up where others had failed.

Helps that The Waj and Smith finally decided to bar up and fight a little.

Warner's injury might make things interesting for another opener. Quite frankly, the Channel Nein crew can fuck right off with "Awww that's just the way he plays!" because in those conditions, it just fucking ISN'T the way you play, clearly.

Anyway, Faf's still a fluffybunny, we've got Pakistan coming up, and I hope I get some time at home to watch Starc swing it in humid Gabba conditions.

That 147kmh swinging shit on middle stump is immensely hardening.

Hard to see the Pakis give your boys much trouble to be fair judging by their limp displays in NZ.

I think the selectors made a lot of knee jerk selections that didn't come off. Khawaja, Lyon, Starc and Hazelwood just stood up in that test and that got Australia over the line. I think MN5 is right. It is hard to see Pakistan giving Australia too much to worry about. Our pace bowling has been too much for them and Starc and Hazelwood are better than what we have.

Coach Boof has made his feelings about Maxwell felt, after Maxwell made his feelings about Wade felt. Its all feelings.

Australian coach Darren Lehmann tells unhappy Glenn Maxwell to 'make some runs'

Former Victorian wicketkeeper Darren Berry has likened the festering Glenn Maxwell-Matthew Wade feud to a "pimple getting squeezed to the top".

Australian coach Darren Lehmann has joined a growing chorus of cricketers in sending a blunt message to loose cannon Glenn Maxwell: "make some runs".

Lehmann's message came as former Victorian wicketkeeper Darren Berry likened the festering Glenn Maxwell-Matthew Wade feud to a "pimple getting squeezed to the top".

At a media conference on Thursday, Maxwell was highly critical of his state captain, describing batting at No.6 behind Wade in the Victorian Sheffield Shield order as "painful".

"The wicketkeeper should be batting at seven unless you're trying to squeeze an extra bowler into your line-up," Maxwell said.

His comments have gone down like a lead balloon with his Victorian teammates, after he said it affected his chance to break into the Australian Test side.

However Lehmann said Maxwell was never in the running for the recent Adelaide Test against South Africa because he simply wasn't making enough runs.

"No. Because he hasn't made 100 for the last two years. You need to make 100," Lehmann said.

"Are you going to pick a bloke that hasn't made 100 for two years?"

Berry suggested that the tension between the two players had probably gone on for a while now, but accused Maxwell of a selfish attitude.

"What we might be seeing playing out here might be the pimple getting squeezed to the top," Berry told SEN on Friday.

"We don't really know what's going on in the inner sanctum. We all speculate in the media (but) unless you're in the locker room you don't really know.

"But what I'm reading, what I'm hearing, is that pimple that was probably an under-surface pimple now has got a lot of pus in it and it's getting squeezed.

"Glenn, you've missed the mark there I'm sorry ... that's 'me me me' stuff, isn't it?

"It's a team sport and he's batting at six, Cameron White's batting behind him at seven. Cameron White didn't come out and criticise Matthew Wade.

"No doubt as captain Matthew Wade may have used a little license because he wanted to get back in the Australian side, so I understand where Glenn's coming from there, but to come out publicly and say (those things) ... you just don't do it."

Berry said Wade wouldn't be happy with Maxwell's comments and the situation would ensure an awkward environment in the Australian change rooms if, as expected, the pair line up against New Zealand at the SCG on Sunday in the first Chappell-Hadlee one-dayer.

The former South Australian coach even predicted potential fireworks between the two players and strongly suggested that national coach Darren Lehmann and/or captain Steve Smith make them sort out their differences before the series opener.

"I'm tipping there'll either be a Mexican standoff or there'll be a clash of the titans," Berry said.

"I would just say, 'let's sort this out. What's the go? Bang, we're now playing for Australia, clear the decks and let's go'.

"Go out and have a little cold one and a chat and say, 'what's going on?'

"What I'm detecting is that Maxwell is not happy behind the scenes, clearly the Vics aren't happy with him and this has just raised the tension."

Berry also said there was a chance that Maxwell would not be playing for Victoria next season.

Maxwell should be batting before Wade every day of the week. If Wade has promoted himself to 5 to try and crack the Aussie team again then he's a selfish asshole. I can understand Maxwell's frustration TBH.

Even more of a dick move by Lehman, he should have stayed right out of it in the . media and dealt with it behind closed doors. He has slammed one of his own players over something that he just did not need to.
    Boofhead indeed

Don't forget that Boof probably still has a chip on his shoulder about being the highest scoring first class batsman in Oz before getting his call up to the national side. He was ignored for a long time while racking up 100s.
I also recall him being out of the side for quite some time but can't remember if it was due to form or fitness (fatness)
He looks to be applying the treated he received back to others.

    @Crucial

Lehman would have made a ridiculous amount of money in the modern game - fantastic on Indian pitches & a big slogger who could bowl a bit. I bet he looks at Maxwell & thinks "you entitled fecker".

If Maxwell really wants to play tests for Aussie a good starting point would be a year in county cricket scoring a huge number of runs ahead of an Ashes series. But it looks more that he wants to be picked on doing dick in 1st class & scoring a lot of T20 runs on the global circut while pocketing $2m a year

    Really?

"Are you going to pick a bloke that hasn't made 100 for two years?"

That looks like a coach stating why he didn't pick a player for Test Duty. Direct talk, no hedging. Performance based.

Not involved in the feud, but has to hose it down at training because both Wade and The Big No are IMG the ODI squad right now.

Is there another quote I'm missing?

Given the plethora of whingey, score-settling books released, the openly whining to the press, and the results on the field, this does appear to be the summer of discontent in Aus cricket

I think its a bit more open than it has been before. Hopefully this tells Sutherland and Howard they're just not doing the job any more.

Sutherland, in particularly, has been riding this pony for years. And that isn't healthy.

Huh funny the different ways you can read things. IMO Maxwell is the one that comes across as a dick in this. Having a whinge in a press conference about your captain and team and blaming them for your non selection in the test side. It matches his personality. All about himself.

Lehman was right to throw water on it by saying he wasn't performing well enough to be picked.

Yes really. You dont say why you didnt pick a player right in the middle of a dispute like this. He went beyond a simple statement n criteria and got involved in a player dispute. Dumb.

Maxwell was left out of the Victoria side earlier in the season. It seemed to be retaliation for looking at moving states

Being pushed down the batting order might just be a continuation of that crap

If he's asked a direct question about Maxwell's Test chances - particularly as we play Pakistan in a couple of weeks - what else is he supposed to say?

If he's giving "no comment" as an answer it also looks dumb, because we got spanked in two Tests this year. The perception is that selections show a lack of transparency lately.

Three debutants in Adelaide who had domestic form get picked, Maxwell doesn't.

Media ask why, and so Lehman is completely transparent. If Maxwell has a problem with that, he now has an avenue: score runs.

If the Victorian situation is shit, that is nothing to do with Lehmann.

Also doesn't put him in the middle of the player dispute. That's peripheral to the question.
