10km Times
-
great time Cutter - 10k is a bitch - you go out hard, and then keep going for the next 35 minutes!! Only way to get better too is just to keep doing it, and doing it, and doing it...!!

The most mind fucking of all the distances - although the 2000 is too, and then the 5, and then the...

No, the 10,000, as it takes forever, so you hvae to be mentally stronger for longer. -
Thanks Bart. I'm doing one a week so hopefully my mental strength will improve as well as my fitness. The time I didnt finish it wasnt because I was physically incapable, it was just a 'mind' quit. I had gone out hard, but I should have just backed off to a managable rating with a view to finishing irrespective of my time.
-
yeah, it is hard to do that though - back off and finish anyway, when you do that you are mentally shattered, and just want to quit.

I am the same, I have never quit because I physically could not row anymore, always the mind that is weak.

The old, 'body willing, mind weak' thing.

Am going to get back into rowing again next week - have been walking and running with the Mrs, and 3 weights sessions a week over the last few weeks, and loving it. But time to up the ante again.

Those 10k times are most impressive though Cuts, well done. -

That's a pretty good start and I reckon you'll be smashing records in no time.

If I have a week off my mind convinces itself I cant row at the level I rowed last time. There is no hiding on the rower its actually quite scary what a bloody quitter my mind is. Its a constant battle. When I'm off the machine I back myself to beat my last time, but once I get on there and am a few minutes in, all I can think about is how hard it is. I find it particularly hard if I am slightly below where I expect to be. -
times come down quick when you first start rowing, And it feels great beating your time every time. But when it starts being seconds, and you are full noise every time, that is when the 'mindfuck' begins!!

All good though, another 5000 at lunch today, another cruisy one though, and in a week start nidging the pace a little...! -
And in my efforts to encourage slow fuckers like me to post, there's my best time. Previous best was 46:35 on the 28-06-07, improved to 44:51 today.

Was feeling OK, kind of in pain and sprawled out on the floor in my recovery position (looks like a starfish with steam rising off of it) when my son - who though it was a game - ran up and kneed me in the guts. That didn't help so much. -
The first 3 rows are hell and the times are well down. Then it gets more comfortable and I get some reasonable gains

The problem for me at the moment is I seem to keep getting little injuries or work gets really busy and I struggle to find time.. so I'm constantly starting over

So my PBs are still a long way off - 1 min away from my 10k, 30sec from my 5k and 200m away from my 30min distance -
New poster here, so be gentle with me.

Getting back on the rower this year after having a kid arrive in the house stopped me rowing for a while. Am working on getting my km up to consistently over 100km a month.

Just pulled 10km in 38:56 earlier this week - had a slower row today due to having to stop and adjust the heart rate monitor.

Do people still hang out in this forum?
Cool, I'll post in here. I've been intermittent on our concept 2 - have clocked 2.2M metres and working on the third. Satisfying to see it tick over, that's for sure! Great fitness and I just need to lay off the beers and chips and it'd be easy <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Posted a happy 10km of 38:51.4 yesterday. Felt good and strong at the end - didn't want to blow out as I plan another 20-30km in the next few days. Got to 100km for the month just now (well,99km anyway) and looking strong to pull150km for the month. That's a good month for me - I reckon I should be doing that all the time but don't seem to manage it.
