The champion will probably still emerge out of the West

@canefan built somewhat through the draft, given their best player came through the PG trade.

What certainly helped (other than the luck that most teams need to win this stuff) is the culture side. Check your ego at the door and play a role.

Hartenstein was one of the best offseason pick ups coming into this season. Love how he plays and just effort after effort. Obviously NY couldn’t hold him, but what they would’ve done to have him in their run.

The scary thing is OKC I ready to make another run. They are loaded with draft picks which they could use to make a big trade. Or they could just run it back with the same core. Not sure about Denver. They will have to decide whether to reload around Joker. Minnesota will probably need to upgrade somehow. Under new ownership the Lakers will be a force, but I'm not sure they're going to make the leap next year, unless he wants to go way over the luxury tax. I think their improvements will be mainly in the front office and organisational. It remains to be seen if the acquisition of KD takes Houston to the next level

    @canefan

With KD, the Rockets will actually have some go-to offence, so it will interesting to see how they fit. It could be just the right move.

Green is one of those players who could be really really good, but he just hasn't pushed through. If you are the Suns, do you keep him and move the other pieces?

Whoever decided that trading for Beale was a good idea should get a daily kick in the nuts.

OKC should be able to hold on to most of their pieces - run it back!

As a Rockets fan, I'm happy. I thought we'd at least have to give up Jabari/Amen/Reed Sheppard and maybe a bit more.

I had a soft spot for Jalen, but how long do we wait for him to become that go to guy?

    Broooo

What? He's 36 and was very average on the Suns. Nowhere near as explosive as he used to be.

He played a significant part in the Suns trading for Beal and hiring Mike Budenholzer too.

27/6/4 is average? The team was average yes, but KD was ballin out. He missed a few games sure, but there was far too much drama going on there.

Maybe i'm being harsh. For KDs standards I thought he was v average. He's still a good shooter but he can't drive effectively. Didn't play much defense. Didn't lead well when Book was out.

Unfortunately i'm a Suns fan so watched alot of it.

I'm pretty happy with the return we got considering the Suns had zero leverage. Was expecting us to get absolutely shafted.

pretty incredible play offs really. We got four game 7s in one post season, one in the finals. The Pacers fought and clawed their way to the brink of a Championship. OKC were pushed all the way but finished a remarkable season as champs.

As per usual it comes time to start making huge claims after one season. The inevitable "start of the OKC dynasty" chat has already begun. That's despite just 12 months ago it was declared the Celtics were too deep and would win three in a row.
The other one is the start of the Parity era, and the Super Team is officially dead. There might be something to this, and paying a couple of superstar vets huge money and surrounding them with role players probably doesn't get it done any more.

Narratives be damned, that was a fun play offs, and OKC a very worthy winner. SGA with one of the all-time seasons as well.

And so, the celebratory drinks haven't even stopped flowing and talk is already to next year. Obviously there have been a few moves, Durant the big one. There has been chat for the past month that this was going to a very active off-season.

With significant three blown achilles in the East, surely a couple of teams there have a look and make some serious moves? It has never been more open.

The Knicks could have been the model of stability, and built on what they did this year. Yeah nah

    He also shot .527 / .420 / .839 - those are crazy numbers

But more importantly, he is exactly what Houston needed

Booker was way more problematic for you guys than KD this year, though in truth all your issues go back to the terrible Beal trade. You’ve basically turned Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges and 4 1st round draft picks into jalen green, Brooks and a 10th pick.

    Oops

@voodoo You don't have to remind me mate haha... it's rough being a Suns fan.

But KD was exactly what the Suns needed too at the time. When they went to the Finals in 2021, literally nobody outside Booker could get their own shot off.

Booker is/was not the problem. Beal is a straight-up cancer to the team. They didn't even want to get rid of KD but Beal refused to move off his NTC (don't blame him). They couldn't even pay a team to take on Beal.

There were a few other factors too. They couldn’t rebound - 27th in the league. The whole “who’s their centre” started to play out plus the drama.
Most of the defensive rating stats weren’t great either.

But it does come back to the makeup of the team as opposed to KD being this or that.

i think my prediction on here after they added KD was they would win the lot.

I make awful predictions all the time that never come to pass. I should work in sports "journalism"

Yep, but KD was a big part in the make-up of that team. He wanted Beal and Budenholzer. Ironically Budenholzer had KD playing like he was Khris Middleton lol.

The owner Matt Ishbia gets a lot of shit, but he catered to his players wants and aged like shit for them.

For one more year anyway before those guys get the chance to get properly paid - be interesting to see if they take a haircut to stay together. History says that’s unlikely
