He is a Kiwi (.and he’s also Tonga). Born and schooled in Marlborough to a well known family there - Tonga got him on their radar in 2022/23 when he was still a teenager through his heritage when he’d barely left high school and was offered a chance to play at a World Cup as they had a number of injuries and the like.
There’s more egregious examples of poaching/nation switching than this - agree there are issues with using this team as a pathway but this seems like a case of a young Kiwi guy who probably didn’t know the true nature of his talents and probably wouldn’t have represented Tonga if he thought he was an All Blacks contender.
If his departure to the Chiefs is confirmed it probably allows another Pacific Island player to take his spot, who is committed to representing one of those sides.Honestly, it seems a calculated move on his part. Play at a world cup in your teens.
Dont play for them again.
Stand down period means you will be 22/23 when available for your own country

So cutting the Rebels has had the effect of
Losing a game a weekend, but at least the ladder looks different.
The Brumbies are going to come 3rd
Every other Aussie team missing the finals.
Oh.

Oh.
Tahs have gone from 2 wins last year to at least 6 wins
They've gone from wooden spooners to having a chance at the playoffs in the final weekend
It's harder to get into playoffs with 6 spots out of 11 vs 8 spots out of 12

On what games should be played first, etc in first week of finals? Should make no difference, I would expect every team to be trying to win anyway. shouldn't make any difference of other results.
If 3v4 is the last game, and #1 & #2 already won their games, them both 3 & 4 are already guaranteed through before their game even kicks off.

That’s right and it will likely be the case. With the Canes playing tonight and assuming they get the win, they would need to give the Canes 7 days to prepare so highly likely it will be Saturday night in Canberra once the other games have been played.
Or they could play the game in the afternoon, so it’s before one of the NZ based games, however I doubt they will.

What does a number 2 spot mean for the Saders is this an extra lifeline?
Of the losing teams next weekend the highest seed with survive
So Chiefs can't get knocked out and Crusaders can only get knocked out if both Chiefs and Crusaders lose

Based on what? Plenty of teams have had 6 day turnarounds this season.
Chiefs had a 6 day turnaround between the final round and QFs last year.

3rd place is the 2nd game on Saturday
Epic Brumbies academy v Hurricanes academy
real possibility would be a BS scenario.

Brumbies will be 9:35 NZT Saturday I’m hearing- which is no great surprise.

The Canes can risk it by sending a B team over but then if the Blues all of a sudden beat the Chiefs (which is unlikely) the Canes will be in the shit. I can see them starting their best side and then pulling guys at halftime which any team would do in that scenario.
